PSLE Week 27 Update

The PSLE just got more real for us! This week both BB & GG got their entry forms for the exam. They need to show this for all the PSLE exams. Back in India, it used to be called ‘Hall Tickets’ and used to have our photos in it too. This one does not have their photos, because they will give their exams in their own schools, while we used to have to go another school to give the exam. The form also has their exam ID and the subjects they are giving (except for Mother Tongue, most of them will be the same – just some of the children will give English, Maths, Science as either standard or Foundation) and the exam dates, time, exam duration and reporting times.

Being the kiasu mum that I am, I scanned them and copied them (I made 5 copies each!) so that in the event it gets misplaced, we have another copy with us….

The school also gave us the prelims dates and Orals start in as less as 2 weeks. The end is near…..I see it….

As a way for all us to destress, we’re looking at a short holiday in a neighbouring country when the PSLE marking starts in October. So we can relax before the shit hits the fan!

On the DSA front, still no notification from any of the schools we’ve applied for and that’s another stress. I just wish I know if they are not going to get a call back for the next round, then we can focus on the exam itself. I guess I need to put that off my mind – if it happens, it happens. BB is going to be so disappointed if he can’t get to the round 2 of dream school!

Sigh!! I wish I could make things better for them. It was so easy when they were younger – a kiss always made things better – but now that life takes over, it’s only so much a mum can do!

PSLE Week 26 Update

Less than three months to the big week!

GG & BB brought home the school schedule for this term and this is the big term for them – they will have their prelims, PSLE orals during the next 11 weeks and once they are done with the term 3 holidays, then’s the listening comprehension and the actual PSLE written exams.

Also in this term will be the DSA results, or rather those who are chosen to go to the next round, will know by the end of this month. I’ve been praying hard that BB makes it to the next round for the school his heart is set in and GG gets her audition letter….

Wish them all the best and please pray to the higher divine you believe in that they do well in their first national exams get what they wish for!

PSLE Week 25 Update

We’ve reached a milestone on our PSLE quest! It’s less than 100 days to the big week!

BB gave the last of his entrance tests yesterday – this is for his second choice school. Actually he is not too keen on this school, it’s me who is making him do the test as a back-up. This school test is supposed to be much tougher, some people in the groups I frequent say there will even be secondary 1 syllabus questions – well I don’t know how he will fare, it’s all going to be left to fate! BB did say the Maths component was very difficult and he could do just a handful of the problems with confidence, but the Science component was a lot easier, with most of the questions Chemistry based and which he was confident about. They were also told not to discuss the questions with anyone, so I didn’t really ask him anything else.

School starts tomorrow and there’s no easing them back into routine – they start the full schedule right from day 1. I guess because this is the only 12 odd weeks they have before their exams and they still have to get the Prelims in….

Well here’s to a good term for BB & GG – this is the term where we will have the Prelims and the PSLE Orals (I got goosebumps while typing the previous line, that’s how stressed I am about this exam monster!)

PSLE Week 24 Update

The last weekend before the start of school for GG & BB, well technically school officially starts on the 29th, but in their school, the P6s have to come back from tomorrow from 8 to 12:30, so it’s almost a full school day for them!

BB gave his entrance exam for his dream school yesterday. It consisted of 2 papers – a verbal reasoning one for 45 minutes with 96 questions and a logical reasoning one with 30 questions to be completed in 30 minutes. BB found the verbal reasoning paper a whole lot easier than the logical one which he said he just finished as the bell went!

The institute taking the exams will send the results directly to the school (we don’t get to see the results at all) and if the school feels BB fits in the criteria they have based on the test results and his school marks, they will invite him for a half day camp in the school where he will interact with teachers and students. After that if found suitable, he will get an offer letter! All fingers crossed from all of us that BB makes it to the next round!

Otherwise a mundane week here, with loads of studying done (I hope)!

I am getting more nervous as the PSLE dates come closer…..

PSLE Week 23 Update

GG & BB have now started the holidays proper, but the caveat being they need to put in some hours doing PSLE studies…It’s unfair, I know, but when I see others doing six hours and more, it makes me even more anxious…

Next Saturday is BB’s test for his dream school number 1. We have applied to two schools for DSA and this test is for his first choice school. There will also be a test for the second choice school, but the date is not yet released.

GG’s application to her first choice school has also been submitted, and now we need to wait and see if she will be sent the invitation to audition at the school.

We’re finally on with our movie plans today and hopefully the movie should be worth the wait!
