PSLE Week 28 Update

We are closing the PSLE Gap! Just about a month to the Orals and slightly more than 2 months to the final written exams!! Btw, BB thinks this is plenty of time. Earlier in the week when we were calculating the time left, he said “There’s more than 75 days to the exams, so much time”! Me and GG just looked at him with mouths agape!

We also got two sad pieces of news this week. Both the schools where BB gave the entrance exams for his DSA rejected him. One of the schools was BB’s dream school and this has hit him quite hard. I am also very disappointed 😢 with the outcome. This weekend is turning out to be a very disappointing one. But, now we need to look ahead to doing well in the exams now.

We also got the full time table for the rest of the year from the school, it’s chock-packed till the end of the PSLE exams. I really need a holiday after all this. I am so looking forward to it, need to book the tickets soon as well as plan my India trip after the results are out…

2015 Week 27 Update

Not a very happy week for me, this one!

I’ve had two ‘conversations’ with my boss and the first one last Monday was so, so depressing that I was in tears during and after it. I kept brooding over it the rest of the week and we had a follow up conversation on Thursday which was more of a mid year conversation. I don’t want to explain the whole thing in detail (which if I do, will take up more of your time than I care for you to lose :-)).

To summarise both the conversations is that I can’t escape the admin part of my current role anytime soon. With the team expanding, it only means more of this for me. Also, I don’t see any promotion in the cards, at least in the near future (within the next year). So now I really need to figure what I want – do I stay here and hope for the promotion in say a year’s time which may or may not materialise? Or should I move on?

I’ve been stewing on this, and at this point what I think I will do is wait it out. I will apply for new positions and see where that takes me. If I get a great opportunity, then maybe I will take it up or at the very least give this organisation to match that offer. If it does not pan out, then I’ll leave…

Well, that’s my life this last week. This week is a short one with Friday being a public holiday for Hari Raya Haji or Ramzan Id as I’ve always known it. For Muslims all over the world, it’s a time of feasting after a month of rigorous fasting!

PSLE Week 27 Update

The PSLE just got more real for us! This week both BB & GG got their entry forms for the exam. They need to show this for all the PSLE exams. Back in India, it used to be called ‘Hall Tickets’ and used to have our photos in it too. This one does not have their photos, because they will give their exams in their own schools, while we used to have to go another school to give the exam. The form also has their exam ID and the subjects they are giving (except for Mother Tongue, most of them will be the same – just some of the children will give English, Maths, Science as either standard or Foundation) and the exam dates, time, exam duration and reporting times.

Being the kiasu mum that I am, I scanned them and copied them (I made 5 copies each!) so that in the event it gets misplaced, we have another copy with us….

The school also gave us the prelims dates and Orals start in as less as 2 weeks. The end is near…..I see it….

As a way for all us to destress, we’re looking at a short holiday in a neighbouring country when the PSLE marking starts in October. So we can relax before the shit hits the fan!

On the DSA front, still no notification from any of the schools we’ve applied for and that’s another stress. I just wish I know if they are not going to get a call back for the next round, then we can focus on the exam itself. I guess I need to put that off my mind – if it happens, it happens. BB is going to be so disappointed if he can’t get to the round 2 of dream school!

Sigh!! I wish I could make things better for them. It was so easy when they were younger – a kiss always made things better – but now that life takes over, it’s only so much a mum can do!

2015 Week 26 Update

Another week has gone by!

I have quite a busy week starting today and so my complaint of being bored will not work this week. I also have a “conversation” with my boss later today about my role here and what I can and should do for better opportunities in the company. Guess this conversation will decide for me whether to stay or to start looking for newer opportunities. I like this place and about 60% of my job, which is why taking that step to go out is a bit hard!

On another note, I’ve been having a bit of problem with my right shoulder and arm for a while now. I’ve been putting medicated plasters and muscle relaxants on it, especially at night, but since Saturday evening, the pain is quite bad. After googling the symptoms, I have now decided that I should mention it to my doctor when I see her next week for my routine checkup because one of the symptoms of a heart attack or stroke is pain in the arms….

Also, good news for Singapore during it’s 50th birthday. The Singapore Botanical Gardens has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The news came yesterday and it’s nice to have a UNESCO site in your backyard. More about this one of these days….

PSLE Week 26 Update

Less than three months to the big week!

GG & BB brought home the school schedule for this term and this is the big term for them – they will have their prelims, PSLE orals during the next 11 weeks and once they are done with the term 3 holidays, then’s the listening comprehension and the actual PSLE written exams.

Also in this term will be the DSA results, or rather those who are chosen to go to the next round, will know by the end of this month. I’ve been praying hard that BB makes it to the next round for the school his heart is set in and GG gets her audition letter….

Wish them all the best and please pray to the higher divine you believe in that they do well in their first national exams get what they wish for!
