2019 Secondary 4 Week 44 Update

Happy Diwali! May the festival of light bring the light of happiness, joy and prosperity in your lives!

This week marked week 1 of the O level written exams. One week down and three more to go. They mostly had the papers which are common to the entire cohort, which is English and E-Math.

Next week is a content heavy week with humanities and some science papers. The week also has both BB & GG have two exams on some of the days which means they need to be in school by 7 and only end their day around 6!

As for this week’s exams, it was ok in their words. I would say GG seemed more confident compared to her previous outing in a national exam and I am confident that she will do as expected or better. BB says his math papers were good, but as usual, he has made some careless mistakes which can cost him up to almost 5-7 marks each. I wonder if there ever will come a time when he comes out a math exam without making any careless mistakes!

Anyway, our countdown is firmly ticking and before we know it, we will be done with the exams and off on our holiday. Can’t wait!!

Have a great weekend and if you are celebrating the festival, once again a very Happy Diwali to you and your loved ones.

2019 Secondary 4 Week 43 Update

This is it! The O level written exams start tomorrow and you can imagine the stress levels in the house.

GG is extremely stressed and it shows. She is now perpetually grouchy and annoyed at small things and seems to have forgotten to smile!

BB on the other hand is very chill. Yesterday I asked him if he was worried and he says, “Umm, both yes and no”. I have now started calling him Teflon Boy because nothing seems to stick to him.

I am thinking once the exams start, they take a life of their own and before we know it, we will be looking at the last exam and the holidays, but till then it’s stress town for us.

Please keep GG & BB in your prayers and send positive thoughts our way, if possible.

2019 Secondary 4 Week 42 Update

BB had his Physics and Chemistry practical exams this week and both the exams were apparently the toughest in recent times. In fact, according to a reddit thread, one student said their teacher said something similar had last come 24 years back! All the practical exams this year were very hard and now I am really worried about the written papers. Apparently the trend is for the exams to be set harder and harder each year and this year looks to follow the trend with exams looking to be the hardest this year.

We are now ten days away from the exams and to be honest, we just want the exams to start and then get over with. I know once the exams start, they will take a life of their own and then before we know it, we are at the last exam!

BB is currently now on his study break, but had to go to school a couple of times for lessons. GG on the other hand, still has school and will probably get study leave only sometime next week.

Have a great Sunday people! And if you are the praying sort, please send some prayers and positive thoughts our way so GG & BB do well in their exams.

2019 Secondary 4 Week 41 Update

After attending GG’s graduation ceremony last week, this week I attended BB’s graduation ceremony. Unfortunately S was unable to make it this time as he had some unmissable work commitments. Fortunately for me, I met a fellow parent whom I’ve known since BB started this school. Her son was is also from the same CCA as BB and who is the only other student who was offered a place in the same course that BB was offered a place in. So our children will be classmates in the future and it’s good that BB has a known face going into the new school.

BB’s graduation was very different from the one we saw in GG’s school last week. There were less speeches and all the sec 4 form made a short video which I thought was a nice gesture where they sort of danced and wished the class of 2019 all the best for their exams. They also sang the school song for the very last time (according to the emcees) and at the very end they got a special badge with the words “Class of 2019” and a graduation certificate. BB also got a badge at the begining of his journey in this school in secondary one and both badges were given by their form teachers, so this is something I really appreciate the school for.

We are down to around 2 weeks to go for the O levels and as I have mentioned before I am just counting down the days when the exams end as are the children.

Have a great Sunday!

2019 Secondary 4 Week 40 Update

GG had her school graduation this week and it was an interesting experience. As the guest of honour, they had an alumni over, someone who had graduated more than 10 years back from the school. This person had an interesting career path, from being an average student in school with not so stellar grades he went on to becoming the valedictorian for his university cohort and has achieved quite a bit in Poly and University. I enjoyed listening to him and hoped the class of 2019 took back from his speech.

BB has his graduation this week and that is also something I am looking forward to.

We are around three weeks to the O levels now and at this point, all I want is for it to get over!

Have a great Sunday people!!
