2018 Secondary 3 Week 42 Update

I mentioned about BB’s relatively bad marks, this week, I reached out to all his teachers to speak to them. In his school, the teachers meet the parents of all students after the mid-year exams, but for the year-end exams, they only meet parents of selected students. I am guessing that he has not reached that stage yet, he is probably in the bottom 15-20% of his class, but not yet bottom enough to stage a parental intervention.

I spoke to a couple of teachers and have an appointment to meet some more next week. The consensus from his teachers seems to be that he needs to change his attitude which I  also agree 100%. Now I will know for sure once I meet his form teachers next week. BB is also going on a trip to a Malaysian state in a couple of weeks for a Humanities learning journey.

As to GG, she did relatively well in her subjects. In the subjects which she is weakest, which are Maths and Science, she did better than we expected, but there is still a lot of scopes to improve, which we will start working on during the holidays.

Have a blessed Sunday!

2018 Secondary 3 Week 41 Update

Exams are over and its results time. Since BB’s exams ended last week, he started getting his results back this week. He didn’t do well at all with the exception of Maths. In fact he failed in his core sciences also which is totally unacceptable to me. He was upset at the results but this is what he sowed, so he has to reap the fruits of the same, right. I do hope he has a wake-up call and learns his lesson.

GG ended her exams this week and spent a nice long weekend just doing what she likes. Her results will start coming from Monday and while she is enjoying her weekend, she is also worried about going back to school on Monday.

Happy Sunday folks!

2018 Secondary 3 Week 40 Update

Exams week! Both the children were neck deep in exams. Actually, BB’s exams ended on Friday, with just English listening comprehension left. GG still has major exams and hers will only end of next week.

BB has Tuesday off for marking and then his papers will start to be distributed back to the students. That’s when I will know how well he has done this year. GG’s exams end by the end of the week and she has Friday off for marking. Then next week, her papers will start coming in.

Then it will be a couple of weeks more with non-instructional days in school before they break for the year. They both have to go back to school for the first week of their holidays for a heads-up on their Sec 4 year and then the holidays with a tonne of homework.

Have a fun Sunday people!

2018 Secondary 3 Week 39 Update

We’re counting down to the end of this school year and it’s exam season for BB & GG.

They are super busy these days because the year-end exams are ongoing. BB’s school exam timetable is fairly straightforward with continuous exams daily this whole week. GG’s school on the other hand, has exams for two days and then three days of normal school curriculum and then exams again. This means her exams end three days after BB’s.

Once exams are over, they go back to school for some weeks for CCA and some learning activities. School ends on the last Friday of October. And then it’s the start of the countdown to their O levels. Both BB & GG have to go back to school for a week or so after the holidays start for an O level head start. This will probably mean they get holiday homework to work on.

Have a blessed Sunday.

2018 Secondary 3 Week 38 Update

This was the week of the quiet before the storm. Exams start next week and I am sure the children will have stories to tell about it.

Last week I got a call from S. Apparently BB’s form and chemistry teacher called him because he had not only not handed over a test (in which BB had failed miserably) three weeks late, but that he also slept in class. This was the first time a teacher was reaching out to S, and predictably S was furious. I called back the teacher and spoke to him and then when BB came home, he withstood the combined wrath of both S and me. We’ve removed his access to his laptop till the end of the exams and I am also forcing him to sleep early daily. He says he feels sleepy in class after lunch, so the solution is to sleep early at night and give him a less carb-filled lunch.

GG, as we all know, is super stressed with her exams. I am hoping she is able to do well in all her exams and hopefully do relatively well in them.
