2015 Week 15 Update

Another ho-hum week….

I started on my new job search this week, applying to jobs I may be interested in. I do not want to take very concrete steps as I love what I am doing here, but it’s the impermanence that I don’t like. My colleague E mentioned that there is going to be some openings in my department soon and that I should apply for it, as it is basically what I am doing, ramped up a bit. I will do that (Thanks E) and if I don’t get it, then it’s bye-bye company….

Oh, we’ve had a new colleague J who joined from a nearby country in Feb and he is so insecure! Technically he is the highest ranked among the three of us, but the lowest in terms of experience (he has this rank because that was his rank in his home country and they can’t downgrade him when he moved here). So he behaves like the king of the hill – wants all plum assignments and brown-nosing people. He is lucky that he has his fellow country-men around and in senior positions, which helps I guess.

I have to pen this incident down – last week, with all the problems my laptop was giving me, IT finally decided to give me a new one as it was long overdue. They gave me a temp laptop to tide me over till the new one was ready. Now this temp laptop had a privacy screen filter and immediately J wanted to know where I got it from and how he can get one. When E and I told him, these are not really useful he said “But I can’t see your screen from here”. For reference sake, E sits at my back (we both sit facing away from each other) and J sits on my side on the other side of the cube.

Now this makes me wonder – what else does he see on my screen and is he keeping tabs on me? Need to check this out soon….

Also our new boss is finally coming in next week – this was another reason I didn’t want to leave immediately – as I wanted to see if him being here will make any difference. My ex-boss will also be here the week after next to handover, so it will be good to see him too…

Ok, end of my verbal diarrhea….Have a great week folks!

2015 Week 14 Update

This week just zipped by, and before I knew it, the weekend was here!

Job front, things are the same, though it was a busy week at work which helped zip the week away!

I had a sty in my right eye, which was painful and which made me visit the doctor on Thursday. But as soon as I had good sleep over the weekend, it started disappearing, making me wonder if this was because of lack of sleep.

You people must have guessed by now, I lead a very boring life. I am an introvert and proud to be one.

A colleague mentioned I never did anything for myself – go out for dinners, party etc. and only live for my children. At that point, I just smiled and left the place, but it got me thinking. Yes, my children are the core in my life, but I do things for myself – it’s just that the definition of what I like to do and what others like to do may be different. To me, a good book and better conversation ranks much above a party where you make small talk and then forget it 10 minutes later. Writing and thinking of posts and working on it gives me more satisfaction then pubbing! That’s the difference between me and others I guess….

This sums me up perfectly 🙂

2015 Week 13 Update

I realise one thing – most of my weekly updates are mostly about work. I do have a life beyond that, you know, in case anyone is interested.

I am, as a person, who overthinks things and then stresses over it A LOT! I keep thinking of situations that could occur and then think of ways in which I will work through them, all in my head…

This week was a short one, with the week zipping by, with the exception of Thursday, which I think was because of the anticipation of the long weekend!

My helper has decided to unfurl her wings and on Saturday afternoon, went with some friends to a temple of her faith in JB (Malaysia). She stayed over at her friend’s place since they came back quite late and then went from there for her Sunday off.

Naah, it’s not this bad. I actually like most of the stuff I do, even love it. But there are other things I dislike, perhaps even close to hate! My Monday morning face is nowhere like this guys!

Have a great week

2015 Week 12 Updates

This week has been dominated by the passing away of Mr. Lee Kwan Yew. Feeds in Facebook plus the other media spoke about the love that people has for this man, who single-handedly was responsible for making Singapore what it is today. I too penned a few words on this blog. People were queuing over 8-10 hours just for that one minute where they could pay their last respects to Mr. Lee.

Other than that, a very uneventful week, one where a lot of us did some soul-searching. I too did and have come to some decisions, one of which was the rewriting of my resume. It is going on as we speak and once that is done, I will start, if not searching for new opportunities, but atleast have the chance to do that when a good opportunity comes my way.

2015 Week 9: Weekly Update

A super, super busy week for me…We had a work-related conference in the week, which unusually was 2 back-to-back events and was over the whole week. This was in a five star hotel in the city and so it was going back and forth for me the whole week.

I did manage to speak to my ex-boss and he has reassured me that according to him, I do have a good future in this organisation and that I should not make any rash decisions before speaking to my new boss who will come on-board within the next two months. So I’ve decided to heed his advice. I will keep quiet and see how things pan out. If things do not work out, then there’s always the outside world!

During the conference, I was sort of vindicated – things that were done without mine and another colleague’s knowledge and know-how didn’t go well, what they thought was new thought process didn’t go down with the participants, whom we knew better than them. Anyway I am not going to dwell on negativity!

Health-wise, my sugar level has gone up – result of all wrong eating this week I think. So I really need to look out for these signals and eat well this month before my next blood test. At that point, my doctor will decide whether we continue my current medication, or do something else….
