2018 Secondary 3 Week 33 Update

GG was back from her Vietnam trip at the beginning of the week and though the trip was fun, it was super hectic and she was exhausted by the time they landed back in Singapore. For someone whose bedtime is usually 9-9:30 pm, having to sleep close to midnight daily really took a toll on her. But as children and young people are, she is resilient and bounced back very quickly and was back in school the next day!

The rest of the school week was uneventful. BB has been home most of the week since half his cohort is away at the OBS camp and since his half of the cohort will be doing their OBS camp during the September holidays, they were supposed to have their September holidays this week. But they had two days of school, followed by the protected days where they had holidays. During this short holiday, BB invited his friends over for the day, where they enjoyed their time playing games and just chit-chatting!

All in all, it was the usual week for GG, but BB  had a nicer week in terms of being at home and being able to chill.

2018 Secondary 3 Week 32 Update

This was an interesting week for me vis-a-vis BB and GG’s schools.

On Wednesday, we all headed to Singapore’s West Coast Park to take part in BB’s school’s National Day Observance Ceremony plus the school’s Cross Country Run. S was also running in the parents fun run component while I had initially decided not to run, but at the last minute, walked the 3.2 km with some of the other mums. It was a fun morning spent with other parents.

GG has gone to Vietnam for her school’s Humanities Learning Journey over the weekend. We went down to the airport to see them off. The house feels quiet without her. But this is something I have to start getting used to I guess since my chicks will soon start flying out of the nest.

Next week BB gets some days off in lieu of the time they will be spending at their OBS camp during the September school holidays.

2018 Secondary 3 Week 31 Update

Another school week and the timeline for GG’s school learning journey is drawing near. She is going to Vietnam for a humanities learning journey next week and is super excited as well as a bit nervous about the whole trip. Earlier in the week, we had a briefing from the school for both parents and students by the vendor who will be taking the children and they gave us travel tips on the country as well as the recommended packing list. Prior to the talk by the vendor and the teachers, the students had a lecture by a former student, who is currently a history lecturer at a local university about the country. GG loved this lecture and this reignited GG’s desire to become a teacher again. She has been going on and off since Primary school about becoming a teacher.

BB has back to back CCA competitions over two Saturdays. This year, since they are in Sec 3, the school only offered one-way transport for the students which is from the school to the SYFC HQ and they had to make their own way back. I was a bit worried since their HQ is quite far from our home, but he was able to come home quite easily. So that’s one bucket list stricken off, and he has become quite independent.

2018 Secondary 3 Week 30 Update

This was exam week for GG and she said she did ok in all her subjects except for Maths and Science. I am getting a bit worried about her Science and Maths marks and am seriously considering getting tuition for her for the two science subjects since she already goes for tuition for Maths.

BB finally got his NRIC and I can’t believe they will turn 15 in just over 6 weeks time! How time flies….

GG is getting excited about an overseas learning journey they are having next month. Actually, she is both excited as well as nervous. This is a humanities learning journey and the itinerary seems quite interesting. There’s a meeting of the parents with the school next week for those going on the trip and that should give us more information and get answers to our questions. This is not her first overseas trip alone (or with her school) as their primary school also had a compulsory trip for all fifth graders. These two went to Kuching, in Sarawak, East Malaysia and that was a nerve-wracking trip for us rather than them.

Ah well, have a wonderful and relaxing Sunday folks!

2018 Secondary 3 Week 29 Update

GG starts her common test from tomorrow and she is very stressed about certain subjects. These are subjects she is not very strong and so struggles with them even now.

Yesterday was Racial Harmony Day in Singapore. This is a day which is celebrated every year on 21 July to commemorate the race riots of 1964. This is a day where children across schools in Singapore are encouraged to reflect on what it means to be a racially harmonious nation and how we can learn about the various races which make up Singapore’s diverse population.

I, along with other parents, volunteered at BB’s school for the celebrations. We helped with the serving of food from the various races as well as in manning stalls where traditional games from the different races were played. It was really nice seeing the students dressed up in ethnic costumes and looking lovely.

Happy Sunday folks!!
