2015 Week 9: Weekly Update

A super, super busy week for me…We had a work-related conference in the week, which unusually was 2 back-to-back events and was over the whole week. This was in a five star hotel in the city and so it was going back and forth for me the whole week.

I did manage to speak to my ex-boss and he has reassured me that according to him, I do have a good future in this organisation and that I should not make any rash decisions before speaking to my new boss who will come on-board within the next two months. So I’ve decided to heed his advice. I will keep quiet and see how things pan out. If things do not work out, then there’s always the outside world!

During the conference, I was sort of vindicated – things that were done without mine and another colleague’s knowledge and know-how didn’t go well, what they thought was new thought process didn’t go down with the participants, whom we knew better than them. Anyway I am not going to dwell on negativity!

Health-wise, my sugar level has gone up – result of all wrong eating this week I think. So I really need to look out for these signals and eat well this month before my next blood test. At that point, my doctor will decide whether we continue my current medication, or do something else….

PSLE Week 9 Updates

A very boring week from my perspective. I was away from home the whole week for a related conference (more about that tomorrow), and so most days by the time I came home, GG & BB were asleep!

GG even wrote me a note on the things she wanted to tell me, but couldn’t! So sweet right!

We are having Parent-Teacher Meetings in school on Monday and Wednesday and I am sure the teachers and me will/should have a lot to talk about…

On another note, BB & GG have their NAPFA (National Physical Fitness Award) test on Monday and Wednesday and they are a bit scared about it. This test is to assess the overall fitness of students in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions with the test modified to suit age and gender. Of the six stations, they are worried about 1-2 that they are not sure of passing. They say they will be made to take it again and again till they pass it. More about this next week…

2015 Week 8: Weekly Update

IMG_3415A very, very busy week for me as we were all busy working on a annual conference which starts on Tuesday. I have loads of vents on how stuff has been changed at the very last minute, but I am not going to do that – nothing will come in the way of my new zen attitude!

What I am planning to do is meet my ex-boss later today (he is here this week for the conference, albeit as a delegate this time) and probably speak a bit freely about my future in the organization – he did tell me before he left to consider him as a mentor! This will allow me to crystallize my thoughts on what I should do moving forward…

Found this great website on Facebook – Chisel. You can use the photos there or upload our own photos and create great quotes. This one is the result of something I just did. Have you used this before?

Positive Thought 1

Diet and exercise was as usual off and will be this week too…Food in conferences in Asia are so much tasitier, plus some dinners….Need to get on track very soon….

PSLE Week 8 Updates

The CA 1 results came in this week and BB did fairly well, he could have done better, but we’ll work on that for the SA1 and the Prelims. GG didn’t do well in Maths, her nemesis subject, but other than that, she did ok in her other subjects. She still needs to up the ante though….

We also went to a Open Symposium at the School of the Arts (SOTA) as GG was interested in the school and try through DSA. It was quite a full house, but I felt that the process could have been handled better. Firstly it was not an open house – we were armed with questions and we didn’t get a chance to ask any. The open house is on the 11th of April, where you could see the school. This was billed as an hour’s programme and basically had the school principal and vice principal selling the school. While I understand the need to sell the school, but the fact is that unless you were a parent or child interested in the school, you would not be there at 7 pm on a Friday evening. Parents and children came there to see if the school is a right fit for them. Then once the hour’s worth of talk was over, we were moved to another place, by specialty (we were there for music) and taken to an auditorium, where someone from the faculty of music started talking. He was American (I think) and even though we were sitting halfway down the auditorium, what he spoke was very indistinct. He basically reiterated that was said above and not much in terms of new information. Then there was supposed to be a concert – by alumni and students! We didn’t wait for the concert and left at this point. GG is now having second and third thoughts about the school – one being the fact that school starts at 7:45 am, which means she needs to leave home by 6:30 am to get to school on time, notwithstanding any accidents or delays on the road….

2015 Week 7: Weekly Update

IMG_3422[1]I’ve been collecting nice saying online and this is one of them.

This was a short week for us too, with me going to work only on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday was a half day and I worked from home. Thursday to Sunday was the Chinese New Year break where I caught up on sleep. Since Singapore pretty much shuts down during this period, we didn’t go out and just relaxed at home, cooking, reading and watching TV.

This meant diet and exercise went for a toss, need to come back to the right frame of mind this week 😦

This week will be a super busy week at work – our annual regional conference is next week and this year prep work has been left to the last minute. So need to chop-chop get all the loose threads in place soon and make sure the conference is up to the standards the participants are used to. I also plan to have a heart-to-heart talk with my ex-manager during this week, he did ask me to see him as a mentor before he left, and that is exactly what I plan to do. I really want to get an outsider’s view of my career here and decide next steps soon.
