2019 Week 24 Update

Another week and we are almost halfway through the year!

I think, after more than a year, I have finally made peace with freelancing. I have decided that this is probably what I want to do and have started the process of reaching out to people to get more clients.

My take is that given that I hate the politics that happens in most offices, working for myself takes me away from that environment is a definite plus. Also the fact that there’s commute to work and the need not to wiork with people I may not get along with. I can also blast music or videos as I work and work on something else concurrently without being judged negatively.

I also went for my next eye review earlier in the week and though my eyes look all right, the right eye is still not 100% allright. The left eye is, according to the doctor, quite pristine. I am down from six eye drops to four eye drops, which is really a huge relief to me. I have the next review after a month and my hope at that review is that both my eyes are ‘pristine’

It was Fathers Day yesterday and so we decided to take S to the newly opened Jewel at Changi. It was a fun trip in the midst of studying and we really enjoyed it a lot. I will post pictures of the place soon.

Have a wonderful week folks!

2019 Week 23 Update

I felt that this week just flew by, without really doing much.

My eyes are really much better and the redness is all but gone. I don’t even have any more bluriness in my eyes and the sensitivity to light is also gone. I have another appointment with the doctor later today, which I hope is the last one.

Something happened to me earlier this week which sort of reinforced my belief that humanity is still alive. I had an event in the middle of the week and then had to go to the hospital pharmacy to pick up a medicine that was out of stock when I last went there. Since I had some heavy things in my hand, I decided to take a taxi. After getting down and queueing up to get the medicine, I realised to my horror, that I didn’t have my phone with me. I was sure I didn’t drop it while walking from where I got off to the pharmacy and quickly went to the information counter to see if there was a phone I could use. There was none there, but the nice lady there offered to call the taxi company (I had taken a receipt which was a good thing as we could identify the driver). Between the lady and the taxi company, they were able to get in touch with the driver who offered to drive back to the hospital with the phone as long as I paid the fare. I agreed immediately and used the same driver to get home too. The time between when we called the taxi company and they confirmed that the phone was still in the car was pure torture! I was wondering how I will manage without a phone and what shall I tell everyone at home. We spend so much time on our phones, it’s only when we lose it, we realise how important it is for us.

Next week should be another boring week with me trying to be on top of things on the home and work front.

Have a wonderful week folks!

2019 Week 22 Update

Last week, I pretty much spent the week in multiple trips to the hospital. I did mention that I my eyes had become super red and last Monday, I went to see the specialist for the first time. There I learned that what I had was something called oily eyelids or Blephartis. The area around the eyeballs was also swollen.

The opthalmologist started an aggresive treatment with as many as six eye drops at any given time and had to go back to see the doctor three times last week. The result is that I am so much better now. My hypersensitivity to light is almost gone and I feel like I am about 80% ok now. I will need a couple of weeks for the sensitivity to light and the slight blurring to completely go away.

In other news, I kept away from social media and all electronic devices last week and it was so boring. I realised at this point how much we depend on these devices for not just entertainment, but for all our daily needs also.

I now have a full load this week, what with my pending tasks from last week. Plus there is a public holiday in the middle of this week, which makes getting back to track slightly more difficult.

Happy Monday and have a wonderfully productive week!

2019 Week 21 Update

This week has been me in the sick bed pretty much the whole week.

I have been having some issues with my eyes for a while and it was diagnosed as dry eyes for which I have been getting treatment. Last week, in the middle of the week, just before bedtime, I felt a searing pain in my right eye and it felt like something went in. I rubbed the spot and went to bed thinking it was nothing. I woke up in the morning to an eye that was completely red and looked like something out of a horror movie.

I rode out the day thinking it will subside, but when it didn’t I called the hospital where I was getting treated and asked if I could get an appointment. I was lucky that I managed to get an appointment for later today.

I also saw my GP who suspected that it may be some sort of viral infection and gave me an antibiotic cream to tide me till my hospital appointment. I was also asked to monitor the situation and go to the A&E if it becomes worse.

My eyes have become extremely sensitive to light and I can’t use any electronic device. I am able to only use my phone for extremely limited amounts at a time.

It’s only now have I realised how much I depend on my eyes and how much I need it for my daily activities including hobbies. I have to keep taking rest very often to rest my eyes and find myself sleeping a lot. I have literally slept my way through the weekend and am joking to my family that I am clearing sleep debt of a couple of years this week.

Wish me luck as I see a specialist later today that it’s just a simple infection and that it gets cleared soon. I am having a digital detox this weekend and want that to also end.

2019 Week 20 Update

This week went by in a fog! For some reason I was unwilling to do anything or be productive. I just went through the motions the whole week and poof, it’s a new week today.

We start the new week with a public holiday because Sunday was celebrated in Southeast Asia as Vesak Day which is also known as Buddha’s birthday or Buddha Jayanti in India.

After a long time we went out as a family over the weekend and I like how interactions with BB & GG are at almost adult levels. I don’t have to filter what comes out of my mouth to be more kid-friendly and can speak to them as if I am speaking with another adult. That’s fun actually.

I have lots of plans for this week, but today will be a bit slow because everyone will be at home. I know I work best when I am alone at home and can focus on my work.

Happy Monday folks!
