2018 Week 37 Update

The last week was not a very hectic week, but this one is showing signs to become one.

Yesterday, BB & GG 8-9 friends came home and they had a blast. I had ordered some pizza and fried spring rolls and samosas and then brought some drinks and of course, the mandatory cake! They spent quite some time with us. It was funny because BB friends (all boys), who are all typical nerds like him were settled in his room, each with a laptop and gaming together while GG friends (all girls except for one boy) were in her room laughing and giggling together. Even though one of BB’s friends is a common friend, she didn’t really speak much with him.

This week, I am taking part in a back to work programme organised by a local recruitment firm. I am quite excited about this programme as I think I will learn a lot. Even if this programme does not result in a decent position for me, I am hoping to take back ideas and tips which will help me run my business better. After all, all that we do to impress a potential employer can also be used to impress potential clients. So it’s a win-win situation for me.

Have a happy and blessed week people!

2018 Week 36 Update

This was also another hectic week. Not because I was busy with work, but because it was the September school holidays and I got to spend some real quality time with GG since BB was away at his OBS adventure camp.

We went to see a professor of history at one of the local universities, who is a friend of my cousin. She introduced us because GG is a huge history buff and this professor specialises in a particular section of history which BB & GG are doing in school this year. We had a good time there talking about history (something I am also interested in) so much so, we got late leaving from there. We had planned to have lunch before GG went to school, but we had to cancel that plan and just grab a sandwich. GG literally ran to school from the station but managed to make it on time!

We also managed to catch a show of Crazy Rich Asians (movie review coming up soon) and spent a day together doing stuff that GG wanted to do. I’ve realised my daughter like me, is not much of a shopping person. She also likes to buy what she needs and not waste time window shopping, just like me!

The children head back to school today and I am expecting a quiet week. This weekend marks their 15th birthday and we’re hoping to have a small get-together with their friends at home.

Have a wonderful week folks!

2018 Week 35 Update

August is done and dusted and it’s time for my favourite month of the year – September. I have huge hopes for this month and only this month will tell if this happens.

This week was a busy week for me as I had to go twice for my freelance work. The people I am working with are a bunch of wonderful women and I love interacting with them. I only don’t find a lot of solace in the kind of job I am doing (I feel I am coming across as someone spoilt and dissatisfied, but that’s not the case, really) because the work I am doing is not really cerebral and intellectual. I do hope this freelance business of mine takes off and I can then do work I really enjoy!

This week I got a call from a scammer but I couldn’t scam them back. When I picked it up, there was a recorded message with a non Singapore accent saying “This call is from the Singapore High Court about a pending summons against you. Press 9 to continue”. And then the same message perhaps in Chinese. I pressed 9 and a lady started to speak to me in Chinese. I told her to please speak in English and she cut the call. My chance to scam a scammer was foiled! I wanted to engage with the scammer and ask some questions, but since I spoke in English, they knew they couldn’t engage with me and cut the call!

Happy September folks!

2018 Week 34 Update

We’re in the last week of August and I am now settling in the new freelance project I have taken up. I am only doing one client now and will wait till the end of the year to learn the ropes before I start looking for new clients. I will also use this time to see if I do manage to secure a better paying position.

Other than that, we had a mid-week holiday on the occasion of Hari Raya Haji (or Eid Al-Adha as it’s also called). Mid-week public holidays are great for a reset and when Thursday rolled on, we all thought it was Monday all over again!

This week proves to be quite a busy one for me what with some duties relating to my freelance work and then also a school commitment in BB’s school for the upcoming Teachers Day, I will probably have more to update next week.

Till then, have a fantastic week…

2018 Week 33 Update

This was an interesting week, both in terms of work and my social life.

On the work front, as I mentioned last week, I have started freelancing and this week, I signed on my first client. This is not the role I would take if I had a choice, but it could be the start of something different, something I could be proud of. That time will only tell.

I also hosted a cousin this week at home. She had come to Singapore for an interview at a local university (she is an academic) and between her interviews and public lectures, it was fun catching up with her on family news and gossip. She hit off with GG and they’ve become quite close friends. If she gets the position she interviewed for and comes to live in Singapore for a period, she and GG have made plans to have sleepovers and holidays together. I really hope she gets the job, so it’ll be nice to have someone from my family close by.

This week will be a mid-week public holiday in Singapore due to the Eid-ul-Adha or Bakri Id as its called in India. It’s always nice to have mid-week holidays as it splits the week in half and so the work week does not seem so long!

Have a wonderful week folks!
