2018 Week 10 Update

Another week has gone by, but I am still where I was a week back, a month back, heck, even a year back!

Because of this uncertainty with my job situation, I don’t want to commit to something because I am hoping that the most recent interview will result in a job offer.

I have had an unconventional, non-linear career track till now which makes me over qualified, over experienced and too expensive for junior and middle management roles and not enough specific experience for the more senior roles. This way, I am rejected by probably every role I apply because I am either over or under qualified! It will take a very special hiring manager to be able to see the value I bring to the table as most of them are very blinkered and don’t see the value of having a different and varied perspective. I guess I can also see things from their point of view, as they probably need  someone to hit the ground running, which I probably can’t because I need a couple of months to learn and understand the organisation and in many cases, the industry. Ok, enough of my rants, I just need to keep being positive and know that the universe has something special out there for me and I just need to wait to get to it.

This was my week, this week is all about being there for the children. I need to get them to start being serious about what they want out of life and start working towards it. Have a wonderful week people!

2018 Week 9 Update

The week flew by and before I knew it it’s a new week.

Nothing really happened this week, at least nothing that I can blog about. Something that I was expecting to come through didn’t come by and so I was quite disappointed with how the week fared.

How was your week? Did something nice happen to you? Hope I do have substantial updates next week. Have a wonderful week folks!

2018 Week 8 Update

I really enjoyed writing my blog post on journaling last week as this is exactly what I do each week in these posts!

Last week was quite hectic what with a principal’s tea session and then the parent support group meeting at BB’s school. At the school with the principal, most of the parents at BB’s level were from his classmates class and all of us had one over-riding concern, which was the lack of a proper lunchtime for the children. This class, as well as the pure science sec 4, who have the longest days because of the number of subjects they take, don’t really have time for a proper lunchtime, even when they finish the day close to 4 pm. The school has now assured us that they are working on relooking at their timetable for the next term, especially for the day they end the latest where they can incorporate a lunchtime into the daily timetable.

We also had a talk from one of the outreach people from a local polytechnic on the options available to students. Both BB & GG don’t want to go on to a junior college just because they will have to do two more years of the mother tongue, which they don’t want to do; hence the decision about moving to a polytechnic and then to university. While I didn’t really learn a lot, it did clarify some of the doubts I had and hopefully, this decision is a good one for both children.

We’re looking at ending  February and starting March later this week, may this week and the month of March be awesome to everyone!

2018 Week 7 Update

With a long weekend just ended, it feels like a chore to get back to usual programming.

Last week, S randomly asked me a couple of times for the phone model I use. I wondered why initially and then it struck me that perhaps this was something to do with his V Day gift to me. And I was correct, S got me a phone charger case plus a much-needed cover for my old iPad as gifts.

My eye infection has still not been cured. I was getting better and so I didn’t use the medicine one day and from the next day, I eyes started swelling up and becoming red and watery, especially when I wake up in the morning. I am now waiting for the doctor’s clinic to open so I can go again, my third time in two months for this infection! Hopefully, this time will be last time I need to go and it gets resolved without many problems.

Have a wonderful week people!

2018 Week 6 Update

Another week is over and we’re inching towards the middle of February. The lunar new year is at the end of this week and Singapore is full of a festive air.

I am sort of in a limbo these days. Things that I was sure of happening didn’t come through and because of this, I am wondering what I am to do and when.

I am on a social media microblogging site which will be closed down soon according to the company which runs it. This site is mainly local with a very vibrant community and I also learnt how much influence some of the bloggers have in this sphere. When the announcement came through that the app was shutting down, people started scrambling for alternatives and when any of the bloggers with a sizeable number of followers suggested an alternative, there was a mad scramble to download the alternative and register a username. There is also one blogger who went of their way to find a solution where they drew up a pitch, started a petition and also contacted some venture capitalists and companies with the idea of securing a buyout of the app. I really hope that they manage to save the app, it’s provided me lots of fodder for my posts.
