2017 Week 8 Weekly Update

They say when it rains, it pours! As if the stress of looking for a job is not enough, I also have additional health issues to deal with. A couple of weeks back, I did an eye and foot check-up as part of a primary care package. When the reports came out, they want me to go for additional tests as the results from one eye is slightly out of whack for one disease. According to my doctor, it could be nothing, but it could also be something. I went to get a referral to the hospital’s ophthalmic department and it has been fixed for next month.

S’ mum also was sick this week, so since neither S nor his sister could manage to take her to the doctor, I did it. This meant I was out of the house almost all the days of the week, which also brought my daily steps up significantly. I still haven’t touched the 10,000 I planned for any day yet, but baby steps!

I took the children out yesterday since we’ve not been out in ages. The original plan was to see a Bollywood film, but the movie I wanted to see was rated NC16 here. This means that only those who are 16 and older can see the film and they check IDs before you enter the theatre. So that plan dropped and then we decided to go to a regional library since we hadn’t been to a library since November when our local library was closed for renovation and followed that up with a spot of shopping. Retail therapy is great – haven’t shopped in ages and it felt so good…

Have a great week people!

2017 Secondary 2 Week 8 Update

BB has his common test this week and also got back his Math results. He was quite confident about doing well this time, but when the marks came out, he realised he didn’t do as well as expected. He lost 7 marks to careless mistakes! Now I wonder what his other papers will show up….

GG also got back some marks, she has done much better than expected, except in Maths, which she didn’t do as well as expected. But then, this is the first exam on taking Maths on a higher level, so I am hoping she will do better in the mid-year exam.

I also went for a breakfast and tea session with BB’s school principal in the latter part of the week. There were approximately 40 parents there and what I realised was the overwhelming fear or perhaps the dread that technology has for parents. Most of the questions was relating to cell phone usage by children and the sometimes excessive Whatsapp and messaging as well as the social media usage they had. One takeaway I also had was that I was absolutely right in putting limits in BB & GG’s phone usage as I realise that if I didn’t do this, they would go absolutely out of hand, as some of the other parents have mentioned.

Anyway, planning to take the children out later today, so hope you all also have a good weekend!

2017 Week 6 Update

Another week went by and nothing really to update. My days flow by one after the other and the days blur into each other. I started the week in a funk where I just didn’t feel like doing anything. Luckily I managed to get out of it by mid-week and the rest of the week was ok.

I also went to see a primary care nurse from a major hospital as part of their GP outreach diabetes programme. This included a foot and eye test and then counselling with the nurse practitioner.  I was quite ok with the talk with the nurse because, according to her, compared to the others she saw, I have more knowledge about my condition compared to others. Anyway, as suspected, I have to lose weight as my BMI is really high!

I also realised one more thing – I rarely left the house last week and should do something about it. I realise that I am slipping into depression and should do things that make me not go into it. I realise that our sense of worth is tied to our occupation and since becoming a SAHM, I feel that I am starting to feel, perhaps worthless?

Anyway, on to better thoughts and ideas – let this be a better week for everyone

Secondary 2 Week 5 Update

This was a very short school week for BB & GG because of the Chinese New Year holidays.

GG got another achievement award in school, this time for her CCA. This was because of her CCA, Choir which took part in a competition last year plus their school’s anniversary celebrations. According to her, almost all, but not all members of the choir got the award.

Next week is the first common test for her, while for BB, it will be sometime towards the end of the month.

That’s all from us this week….

2017 Week 4 Update

Nothing exciting happened this week! There, I live a very boring and mundane life and this weekly post does showcase this!

This has been a long weekend, because of the Chinese Lunar New Year celebrations. Living in a multiracial and multicultural society like Singapore, you do get tend to be caught in the celebrations of the festivities of the other races.

Speaking of multiracial and multicultural societies, I am appalled by what is happening in the United States these days! The latest edict by their President which has banned not only immigrants from six largely Muslim countries including legal green card holders is plain ridiculous. Most of the immigrants from these countries are fleeing persecution and hope to arrive in the ‘land of the free’ but that’s not going to happen now. Instead, countries which have exported terror (I won’t name them here, but any simple google search will tell you which ones these are) are not included in this edict, including the countries whose citizens were responsible for some of the most heinous attacks in and on American soil and people. Guess his business trumps human decency!

GG & BB’s dream universities are in America, but if things do not improve, I don’t think I will be comfortable sending them to that country to study as minorities keep getting targeted. University is still almost a decade away for BB, so we still have hope!

I also have loads of family there, some who have been there for decades and are naturalised now and some who’ve been there for a few years now. All of them are highly educated professionals and earn quite well. Browns and minorities even walking the street now begets paranoia and I am quite honestly, worried for them.

Hopefully, the people realise that we’re all human beings and citizens of the world. In this day and time, when distances are not really that important, it’s not wise keeping your borders closed, that too because you are paranoid….

Needed to get this out of my chest, so thanks for reading if you’ve managed to get so far! Hopefully things will get better soon.

January is almost over,  so let’s hope February brings with it better tidings. Have a wonderful week folks!
