Secondary 1 Week 38 Update

This was week 1 of the last term of the school year, which is the shortest of all terms.

Yesterday was also their Hindi year-end exam, the one exam which gives me palpitations each time. As usual, BB will not pass (I swear, I will throw a party the year BB finally passes this exam!). GG said it was one paper was quite difficult, but the other one was ok, so hopefully she has done not too badly here.

This week was also the week when GG & BB turned 13! Sometime in the middle of the week, we suddenly decided to let them invite a few friends for a small party. Both kept waffling on whom to invite and when and then suddenly on Friday, we nailed it to around 6 friends coming over later today. I’ll go to the cake shop and buy a cake and maybe some pastries and order pizzas for thr children as the party is more tea than dinner. Hope the children have a good time later today…

Next week will probably be a less full week and then the exam madness will hit us!

Happy Birthday to you….

Today is the day BB & GG leave their childhood behind and officially become teens! They turn 13 today….

Dear GG and BB,

Happy Birthday to you! You turn 13 today and can now call yourselves official teenagers. These teen years will be amazing years for both of you as you both learn to stretch your wings, form your lifelong beliefs, build abilities and passions and find what you want to do for the rest of your lives.

You both are growing up to become fine young people, who have a good value system which should allow you to take the vagueries of being an adult in your stride. This is an age where temptations abound all around you and I do hope that values and sense we have instilled in both of you will help you fight against those temptations you will see around you.

GG, you are my first born and when I was pregnant with the two of you, I desperately wanted at least one of you to be a girl. You are that girl. You show so much promise and over the last one year, you have literally grown up, becoming more mature and focused. You know what you want to do in school and are very clear about your goals. You may not have the perfect career idea as yet, but each day you are refining your ideas and when you do figure out exactly what you want to do in life, you are well poised to achieve those goals. You also have started blossoming in terms of leadership skills and these will stand you in good stead in life. Keep doing what you are doing with the same passion and you will always be a winner!

BB, when you were born, I was very happy. I had always longed for a brother, and when I saw you with your sister, I knew GG will never feel the same yearning. You’ve been an amazing brother and hope you and your sister be as close as you are now forever. You are such a smart boy that sometimes the things you say, scare me! You found your passion in life when you were 3 years old and over the years, this  has never wavered. This is extremely rare in people who take years in finding out what they want to do in life, with some adults not knowing it till the day they die. I hope you keep this passion alive and kicking and do all that you can to make sure you are able to achieve what you set out to be at age three! Do not less the fun of today make you lose track of what you want to achieve in life and lose sight of the end goal.

02186pcGG & BB, my wishes for you both are that you both lead happy, contented and fulfilled lives. There are not many years left when you will leave these teen years behind and become full-fledged adults and have all the responsibilities that come with it. Use these years wisely, read as much as you can, grow your mind, work hard in school to achieve the goals you set out for yourselves, enjoy life with family and friends and most importantly have loads of fun while doing all this.

I see you both and see myself and your daddy in both of you, but you are version 2.0 of us, better models, the versions I hope I would have been – more confident, focused and less OCD!

So Happy 13th Birthday GG & BB! I am so proud of you….Welcome to the best years of your life – your teens!

Love,

Mum

Secondary 1 Week 37 Update

This week was school holiday week, so nothing much to report here. In fact, even though it was school break, both had to go to school 3 times during the week – GG twice for supplementary lessons and once for CCA and BB once for supplementary lessons and twice for CCA activities.

They have their end of year Hindi exams next Saturday and I am super nervous about it, for both, but especially for BB. I do want him to pass this year, but will that happen? I really don’t know!! GG also has to do well as she needs to do well, not only overall, but also in each individual subject to be considered to be promoted to the better stream.

We didn’t do anything this week, though the week sped past us. Hopefully the next few weeks will go by just as fast and when the results come in, it will be good for both of them.

Happy Sunday folks!!

Secondary One Week 36 Update

Term 3 in this school year has come to an end. The children are on a week-long holiday and will go back to school on 13th September (after the Hari Raya Haji or Bakri Id) holiday and get into the business of finishing the school year with exams. Exams start around the end of the month and school ends in the end of October.

On the last day of the term, which in Singapore is celebrated as Teachers Day, both GG & BB, went to their primary school, along with other primary school friends for an alumni ‘Homecoming’ the school organised. GG had spent the better part of the week making Oreo Truffle chocolates. She made for all her primary school teachers plus some for her and BB’s secondary school form teachers. Hope it was well received by the teachers.

I also spoke to one of GG’s form teachers to ask her about GG’s chances to progress to the higher stream (the one that BB is in). The prognosis seems to be quite positive and according to the teacher, if the student does well in all her subjects, the teachers will discuss the promotion of the student to the stream and if the teachers agree that the student can cope with the vigour of the stream, they will let the student know, who in turn will speak to her parents and if all agree, the parents have to go down to the school to sign the appropriate documents.

GG wants this, so I am egging her on to do well in the end of year exams. I will leave the decision to her, but I want her to get the offer from the school as a validation of her efforts during the year.

Have a great Sunday folks!

Secondary 1 Week 35 Update

Nothing much to update this week except for BB once again getting ticked off in school. On Thursday, I got a call from him saying his Geography teacher wanted to speak to me. When I spoke to the teacher, it turns out that Mr BB had not handed over a graded assignment, in spite of the teacher giving him an extra day to do so. His teacher is a nice person who does not want to spoil his overall grades, so even though she was justified in giving him a zero, she will be giving him pro-rated marks based on his classwork, which is around average. I was so mad at him, within the last two weeks, this is the second incident where he has shown zero interest in school!

Next week is the last week of term 3 and then from Friday it’s a 10-day break for the children before they start term 4 or ‘Exam Term’ as I’d like to call it. Both will have to go back to school a couple of days during the term break for supplementary work or CCA or both.

September is a-calling folks!
