Poem: An Ode to my Phone

Something that’s always in our hands, from the time we wake up till we close our eyes, our phones are almost an extension of ourselves. Here’s something I wrote for the extension of my life….

An Ode to my Phone

You are the first I see when I open my eyes and the last before I sleep
My heart goes a pitter patter when I hear you beep!

You are my access to the world
Without you, I feel I am not in control

When I look back to the time you were not in my life
I wonder, how did I manage with all that strife?

I am just a few keys away from my loved ones
Who are across continents and oceans

The world is my oyster, everything a click or an app away
You make my life feel complete, whether at work or at play

You make me preserve my minutiae of my daily life and my memories
With you around, life is a breeze!

Oh, my iPhone, how much I love you,
I can’t now imagine a life without you,

Please do not die on me, not without a replacement
Because I sure won’t be me when you are absent!

Poem: Books

Another poem on one of the loves of my life (other than my family) – books!

Books!

Open or closed, thick or thin,
I look upon them as my kin

My life is a paradox because I hate to open them
But, at the same time, I have to devour them as soon as I open them

Their smell intoxicates me as none other
In them, I can ask a question and find an answer

I love to have them everywhere
Even on a chair and under the stair

Parting with one is a sweet sorrow
Happy to have someone to bestow
But my heart breaks when parting with them though

Have you figured out who or what I am talking about?
What I am trying to say all in a way that is roundabout?

Why, this is all about books,
My love, my obsession, my life’s passbook

Books are your best friend, your silent pal
The ones who are there for you, part of your cabal!

Poetry: The Weekend

Today is the start of a long weekend in Singapore due to the Hari Raya Haji or Bakri Eid as its known in the sub continent. This poem was written towards the end of the day yesterday and is full of anticipation of the weekend!

The Weekend

The ticking clock tells me to hurry
The weekend’s a-coming, don’t be so bluey

You have a page full of plans to complete
Your weekend’s set, full and neat

You want to clean the house, you want to do your chores
You want to shop, you want to clean the floors

You spend the first day sleeping in
Then hurry like a dervish to finish cleaning

Sunday then beckons you to do some more
All the plans made all for naught

Before you know it, it’s Sunday night,
The night before you go back to work,

You look at the page of your unfinished plans
And know that’s the what you need to do next few weekends

Another weekend is just five days away,
You start planning with joy; the pleasure that would be next Friday!

Poem: I am Me

All of us are unique beings with even identical twins having their own identities.

I am Me

I am me, the almighty took time to make me
I am someone unique, someone, who just wants me to be

You may try to mold me to fit your idea of whom I should be
But you can’t change me to not be me

You can search the whole wide world,
But you can’t find anyone else that looks and thinks like I do

My thoughts, words, deeds, and actions
I am like the fingerprint that beckons

An identity like none other
A life path like none other

I am me, my own person
You can’t change me, I am that beacon

Poem: The Joys of Travel

I love to travel and have a bucket list which only gets filled, but never empty. My dream is to win big in a lottery so I can indulge in travel. At this point in time, life is in the way and I yearn for a time when I can complete obligations so I am free to travel. This poem is but my yearnings set free!

I believe that travelling opens up your mind and is a great teacher. As much as we can afford it, we try to take BB & GG to as many countries and cultures before they grow up.

At this point in time, life is in the way and I yearn for a time when I can complete obligations so I am free to travel. This poem is but my yearnings set free!

The Joys of Travel

The excitement starts long before you board the plane
In fact, it starts when you start making your plan

You look at travel sites and plan your holiday
At the shiny hotel rooms where you plan to stay

The excitement builds up until it’s time to board the flight;
Waiting for the captain to announce the descent
You can’t control yourself, you’re almost at your dream destination

What a thrill it is to be able to travel,
There’s never a moment which is dull

You learn to broaden your horizons
You learn to respect other cultures

To be able to travel is a precious reward
One that will serve you all your life
Make you someone more than your backyard
Keeping yourself above all strife

So go ahead and book your ticket
The world is your buffet
Pick and choose where you want to travel
The world is after all just a bubble

So go ahead and explore to your heart’s content
It’s your life, make it an unforgettable event!
