2023 Week 42 Update

Also known as FDR, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States, is the author of today’s quote. FDR is best known for his leadership during the Great Depression and World War II, implementing the New Deal, a series of programs and reforms to combat economic hardship. FDR’s four-term presidency and his ability to inspire hope and resilience during challenging times made him one of the most influential and enduring figures in American history. This quote conveys the idea that doubts and a lack of confidence in the present can be the primary obstacles preventing us from achieving our aspirations and potential in the future. The quote implies that each individual can realise their goals, dreams, and potential in the future. The quote suggests that the primary factor limiting what one can achieve in the future is not external factors or circumstances, but rather the self-doubts in the present. The encourages individuals to overcome their doubts, have confidence in themselves, and believe in their potential. By doing so, they can break through these self-imposed limitations and achieve their goals.

BB will enlist later this week, and I don’t know how to feel. On one hand, I am glad that this phase in his life is finally here and that with the training he will get there, he will lose all his unwanted fat and become a better version of himself. And on the other hand, I am going to miss my boy! The first two weeks will be a confinement period where he will be unable to come home, and I hope this period is easy on me.

Other than that, I am so tired that some nights I fall asleep even before brushing my teeth or doing my skincare. On those days, I wake up suddenly and then finish my night routine before finally falling asleep again. And because of this, I am not walking as much as I used to, which is something I am not happy with. Anyway, that’s my problem and something I need to deal with.

That’s all for this week. Stay positive and keep smiling 😊

2023 Week 41 Update

Renowned American author, motivational speaker, and sales trainer Zig Ziglar, best known for his charismatic speaking style and his motivational books and seminars, is the source of today’s quote. This quote conveys the idea that achieving greatness or success doesn’t require innate greatness or exceptional abilities from the beginning. Instead, it emphasises the importance of taking the initial step, starting somewhere, and consistently working towards your goals. The quote underscores the significance of beginning the journey towards goals, ambitions, or personal growth. It suggests that everyone has to start somewhere, regardless of their current skills or abilities. The act of starting is the first step, and from there, it’s about consistent effort and improvement over time. It encourages individuals not to be discouraged by their initial limitations or self-doubt. The belief is that greatness can be attained through dedication, learning, and hard work. The quote implies that waiting for perfection or greatness to arrive before starting is counterproductive. Instead, it suggests that progress and greatness are the results of action and persistence. Zig Ziglar’s quote motivates individuals to take that first step toward their aspirations, reminding them that even small beginnings can lead to great achievements over time. It emphasises the transformative power of action and the importance of perseverance on the path to greatness.

In the last month, I have not been walking as much as I used to, partly because of work and also since R has gone back to India, I need to do housework which eats into my walking time. So I have decided not to obsess too much about this and walk only as much as I can until R is back. Hopefully, she will be back soon and I can start walking again.

BB will enlist very soon and as much as he hates it, I am hugging him as much as I can. My hope and prayers for him are that he enjoys his time there and becomes a better version of himself in the next two years.

That’s all from me this week. Stay positive and enjoy life!

2023 Week 40 Update

In September, I started walking back to Singapore, after reaching my parents’ new place in Bengaluru. The route I am taking in mainland India is the eastern coastal route, and will reach the chicken neck taking a north-easterly route, after which it will be the same route I took from Singapore. From Bengaluru, I will cross Tirupati, and from Vellore, take the east coast, crossing Ongole, Vijayawada, Vizag, Bhubaneshwar, and Cuttack, before heading north and skirting Kolkata before touching Siliguiri and the chicken neck.

Prominent civil rights leader and activist Martin Luther King Jr is the author of today’s quote. He played a pivotal role in the American civil rights movement and is most famous for his leadership in the March on Washington in 1963, where he delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, calling for an end to racial segregation and discrimination. King’s quote highlights the negative impact of silence and inaction, especially in the face of injustice or wrongdoing. The quote underscores the significance of the relationships we have with our friends and suggests that friends have the potential to be a source of strength and support in challenging times, but their silence can be disheartening and disappointing when it’s needed most.  The quote also implies that, in the long run, people are more likely to remember those who stood up for justice and righteousness, as well as those who remained silent when they had the opportunity to make a positive difference. Martin Luther King Jr.’s quote serves as a reminder that true friendship involves not only loyalty and camaraderie but also the courage to speak out and act when it matters most, especially in the face of injustice or oppression. It underscores the idea that silence in the face of wrongdoing can leave a lasting impression and is not easily forgotten.

I’ve been so drained mentally these days that I have not been reading at all. It is all I can do to read a couple of chapters, and this is something I do not like at all. I need to make a serious effort to read, and eventually I will get good at it, even though I am drained. I only read four books this month, but since I have already crossed my annual reading goal, this is all bonus reading.

That’s all from my side this week. Take care and stay positive

In My Hands Today…

Africa Is Not a Country: Notes on a Bright Continent – Dipo Faloyin

Africa Is Not A Country is a bright portrait of modern Africa that pushes back against harmful stereotypes to tell a more comprehensive story.

You already know these stereotypes. So often Africa is depicted simplistically as an arid red landscape of famines and safaris, uniquely plagued by poverty and strife.

In this funny and insightful book, Dipo Faloyin offers a much-needed corrective. He examines each country’s colonial heritage, and explores a wide range of subjects, from chronicling urban life in Lagos and the lively West African rivalry over who makes the best Jollof rice, to the story of democracy in seven dictatorships and the dangers of stereotypes in popular culture.

By turns intimate and political, Africa Is Not A Country brings the story of the continent towards reality, celebrating the energy and fabric of its different cultures and communities in a way that has never been done before.

2023 Week 39 Update

Today’s quote from Albert Einstein highlights the concept that to address and resolve problems effectively, we often need to change our approach or mindset. The quote implies that there are problems or challenges that need solving. It suggests that these problems were, in some way, created or contributed to by a certain way of thinking or a particular mindset. Einstein then advocated for a shift in thinking. To solve the problem, we must adopt a different, innovative, or more adaptive mindset. By emphasising the inadequacy of using the same kind of thinking, he warns against repeating the same mistakes or patterns that led to the problem in the first place. It encourages a break from the status quo and a willingness to explore new ideas and strategies. This quote underscores the importance of creativity, open-mindedness, and adaptability in problem-solving. It reminds us that to overcome challenges effectively, we should be willing to question our existing perspectives and be open to new ways of thinking and approaching problems.

We’re in the last quarter of 2023 and 2024 is beckoning us. There is a sense of anticipation and reflection and it’s time to take stock of what we did this year and if we managed to accomplish our 2023 goals. The arrival of a new year symbolises a fresh start, a chance to set new objectives, and a renewed commitment to personal growth and development. It’s a moment to harness the lessons learned and use them as stepping stones towards a more fulfilling and successful future. So, what are your plans for the last quarter of the year and what do you want to do in 2024? Do share.

BB will enlist later this month and I don’t know how we will react. It’s not as if we didn’t know this day would come, but when reality hits, it’s a completely different ball game altogether. Well, I have a few weeks to adjust to this new reality. And I will share my feelings here.

That’s all from me this week. Stay safe, stay positive and keep smiling!
