2024 Week 38 Update

Another week where I was exhausted. I think I was more tired this week as compared to last week because we hosted S’ extended family. And because I wanted my home to reflect us, I went slightly out of the way to ensure that my inlaws had nothing to nitpick about when they came over. The party was a hit and everyone loved the food that R and I made. Some of the recipes that I made yesterday and last week will slowly make their way here.

Today’s quote comes to us from American novelist, essayist, and non-fiction writer, Anne Lamott who is known for her candid, witty, and deeply personal reflections on faith, writing, motherhood, and the human experience. Lamott’s quote conveys a message of resilience and perseverance through challenging times. The quote suggests that the best way to navigate difficult or chaotic situations is to focus on small, manageable steps. By taking things one step at a time, we can move forward without feeling overwhelmed. Lamott emphasises the importance of taking a breath, implying that staying calm and composed is essential in dealing with life’s difficulties. Breathing serves as a reminder to pause, center ourselves, and approach challenges with patience. The simplicity of “left foot, right foot” reflects the need to focus on the basics, keeping things uncomplicated when life feels too much. It encourages persistence, even when the path ahead seems uncertain.

That’s all from me this week while I take some time off today to rest and rejuvenate so I can tackle next week with vigour and enthusiasm.

Keep smiling and be positive!

2024 Week 37 Update

I am so exhausted this morning! Yesterday about 15 of GG & BB’s friends came home to celebrate their 21st birthday! I can’t believe it’s almost 21 years since they entered this world. Theirbirthday is later in the week, but because BB will be away at camp, as will many of his friends, we decided to have the party yesterday. Next saturday we will have another one, this time with S’ extended family. I did a ton of cooking yesterday and will do the same next week too.

The author of today’s quote is unknown, but the quote suggests that people often live in a state of unawareness or complacency until they experience an awakening or realisation. The quote reflects the idea that we may go through life on autopilot, unaware of certain truths or realities. It’s only when something prompts a deeper level of consciousness or awareness that we recognise we were not fully conscious before. It can also be about personal growth, implying that true understanding, change, or self-awareness comes only after we “wake up” from old habits, beliefs, or illusions. The quote captures that moment of clarity when one becomes fully aware of their previous blind spots or ignorance, leading to a shift in perspective. This metaphor can be applied to various aspects of life, such as self-awareness, emotional insight, or a broader understanding of the world.

This weekend is going through in a blur and I still have things on my to-do list, so that’s all for this week! See you next week…

2024 Week 36 Update

Our quote today comes from Victoria Moran, who is known as an author, speaker, and holistic health coach known for her work in the areas of spirituality, wellness, and vegan living. Her quote highlights the power and potential that exist in the present moment. The quote emphasises that each moment holds unlimited potential for change, growth, and opportunity. It encourages focusing on the present and recognising that the choices made now can shape the future in countless ways. Moran’s message inspires a mindset of openness and possibility. Being present and aware can unlock new paths and opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed. The quote suggests that life is full of endless possibilities, and it is up to the individual to seize the present moment to explore, create, and make the most of it.

This week, the fragility of life was impressed upon me. One of my uncles, who had been sick for a while, finally gave up the struggle. I had met him earlier this year on my trip to Bangalore, and didn’t think the next time I would be in Bangalore, he won’t be around. This is life, I believe and underscores how much we should enjoy time with those we love, especially the elderly.

BB & GG are super excited about their upcoming birthday and they will have two parties – one with friends at the end of this week and the next with extended family next week. I have lots of things to prepare for both parties and so the next two weeks I have a lot of work to get the house ready for guests.

As for GG & BB, they are busy with their lives – BB with his driving and national service and GG with school and exams. And I am busy with my job search, but nothing seems to click right now.

That’s all from my side this week, stay positive and stay happy always!

2024 Week 35 Update

September is birthday month in our home, with GG, BB and my birthdays coming up in the month. So I am always happy to welcome the month. GG & BB turn 21 later this month and we are preparing for multiple parties to celebrate this milestone birthday.

BB is busy with his new driving course and he will be a good driver because he has the temperament for it. He is calm and collected and does not show too much emotion, which should be good while driving. GG is busy with school and keeps ranting about some of her subjects that are giving her trouble. My job as a mom is to listen to her, let her talk about her frustrations and give her advice.

I just realised that I have not updated my reading and walking this year. I updated my stats this week and by the end of August, I had walked almost 1850 km since the beginning of the year. I started strong but lapsed in the middle of the year, but starting in July, I decided to walk more and especially in August, I have consistently averaged 10 km a day. I am going to sustain this for the rest of the year.

Today’s quote is from American singer, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur, Pharrell Williams. In addition to his music career, Williams is also known for his work in fashion, having launched several clothing lines, and for his involvement in various philanthropic endeavors. Williams’ quote emphasises the importance of finding joy and fulfillment in the process of life rather than fixating solely on end goals or achievements. The quote suggests that true happiness comes from embracing and enjoying the experiences and challenges of the journey itself, rather than just the final outcome or success. It encourages a focus on the present and finding contentment in everyday moments. It highlights the idea that one’s mindset can greatly influence overall happiness. By appreciating the process, whether it’s in work, personal growth, or any endeavour, one can lead a more satisfying and joyful life. The quote challenges the conventional notion that happiness is tied to specific achievements (like winning a trophy or reaching a finish line), proposing instead that a fulfilled life is built on enjoying every step along the way.

Take care and keep smiling!

2024 Week 34 Update

The author of today’s quote, Chuang Tzu, also known as Zhuangzi, was an influential Chinese philosopher who lived during the 4th century BCE. He is considered one of the most important figures in Taoism, alongside Laozi, the author of the “Tao Te Ching.” His writings emphasise living in harmony with the Tao (the Way), embracing natural simplicity, and transcending societal norms and distinctions. This quote reflects on the transformative power of change and the potential for growth that often arises from challenging or seemingly hopeless situations.

The quote illustrates how moments of despair or perceived endings can lead to profound personal transformation. Just as the caterpillar undergoes a significant change to become a butterfly, individuals can emerge stronger and more evolved after facing difficulties. It conveys a message of hope, suggesting that what may seem like the end could actually be the beginning of something beautiful and new. The process of transformation can be painful, but it often leads to a better, more fulfilling state of being. The quote encourages embracing change and trusting that even in the darkest moments, there is potential for renewal and growth.

Life moves at its own pace for me, given that I still haven’t managed to find a new job. I am using this time to write more, especially my creative writing like poems and short stories, which I can then use when I am busy (fingers crossed).

BB starts his class 3 and class 4 driving courses tomorrow and for the duration of the course, he will be stationed at a different camp than his home camp. The new camp is in a different part of Singapore, and the travel time is more or less the same. I am excited for BB for this course, as this one will give him practical knowledge and know-how and hopefully he will be able to convert this to a civilian license once he finishes his national service.

GG is busy with school and her schedule is pretty hectic. She is also exploring on completing her Singapore Chartered Accountancy certification, so that is something she is looking forward to and dreading, at the same time. She was complaining that since the age of seven, all she has been doing is school and studies and I reminded her that she has another three years of school to finish and another two to three years to work to complete her CA certification and she only looked at me and groaned!

That’s all from me this week. Stay positive (I keep trying to) and keep smiling!
