2018 Secondary 3 Week 15 Update

Another week and we are inching closer to the mid-year exams. GG has started to become stressed over the exams because this is the first major exam she will be giving after moving to the upper stream.

BB, on the other hand, seems as blase as he usually is. Sometimes (actually most times), I worry about this boy. When I ask him what he wants to do in life, beyond saying he wants to become an aeronautical engineer, he does not know.

Other than that, nothing much happened in school.

Have a great Sunday folks!

The Edge of the Sky – Drusilla Campbell

522045Lana Porter had it all-a happy marriage and two wonderful daughters-until her husband’s tragic accident left her near-perfect life in ruins… Now, nearly a year later, Lana is still picking up the pieces when she is blindsided by the appearance of her adopted daughter Micki’s birth father.

He comes bearing startling news: that Micki’s birth mother was a rock and roll star who lived fast and died young. His glamorous life leaves Micki starstruck by its possibilities. But life’s unexpected twists and turns are taking their toll. Still reeling from her father’s death and envious of her sister’s newfound celebrity, good girl Beth spirals out of control. Her grades drop and she starts running with a dangerous crowd. Just when Lana feels that she can no longer handle her fractured family, she finds support from an unexpected source. And discovers that opening her heart helps it to heal…that the bonds between mothers and daughters can bend, but won’t ever break…and that families are never perfect-but their love for each other can be…

Poetry: The Fright

The Fright

I wake up and see nothingness
Feel flustered and breathless

My heart starts pumping so loud
That’s the same as feeling you are in a shroud

I toss my hands, feeling my way all around
My nose twitching, just like a bloodhound

Just when I thought all was lost, I had lost my mind
Just when I thought I had suddenly become blind

I realised I had slept with an eye mask all night
I realised what a fool I had been, had such a fright!

Wise And Otherwise – Sudha Murty

1184484

A man dumps his aged father in an old-age home after declaring him to be a homeless stranger, a tribal chief in the Sahyadri hills teaches the author that there is humility in receiving too, and a sick woman remembers to thank her benefactor even from her deathbed. These are just some of the poignant and eye-opening stories about people from all over the country that Sudha Murty recounts in this book. From incredible examples of generosity to the meanest acts one can expect from men and women, she records everything with wry humour and a directness that touches the heart.
