2023 Week 51 Update

To everyone celebrating the festival, here’s wishing you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas! May the spirit of the season fill your home with peace, love, and happiness.

American lyricist, librettist, theatrical producer, director, and award-winner Oscar Hammerstein emphasises the importance of having aspirations, goals, and dreams as a fundamental step toward achieving them. The quote suggests that having a dream is a prerequisite for turning it into reality. It emphasises the idea that a clear vision or goal is the starting point for any meaningful achievement. Without a dream to strive for, there might be a lack of inspiration and drive to pursue significant accomplishments. The quote implies that the process of realising a dream involves more than wishful thinking; it requires active effort, planning, and dedication. Simply having a dream is the initial step, but the subsequent actions are crucial for bringing it to fruition. The quote encourages individuals to engage in the practice of setting goals and envisioning a desired future. It suggests that the act of dreaming is not only valuable but essential for personal growth and achievement. The quote underscores the idea that dreams provide the foundation for meaningful accomplishments, and having a vision is a prerequisite for making progress and turning aspirations into reality. It serves as a reminder of the importance of cultivating dreams as a source of inspiration and motivation in life.

We are in the last week of 2023 and this year, instead of goals for 2024, I want to think of what I want to do in the next year. There are some hazy and vague ideas in the back of my head, and until I have crystallized them myself, it would be premature to share them as yet. I want to make some fundamental changes to the way I think, work and live, and I want to take my time fleshing this out.

And on that note, stay safe and stay positive. Do reflect on how 2023 was for you and what your plans are for the new year.

2023 Week 50 Update

Yung Pueblo, the pen name of poet, writer, and meditation teacher Diego Perez, is the author of today’s quote. Born in Ecuador, he migrated to the United States in his early childhood and gained prominence through his writings on mindfulness, self-love, and personal development. The quote suggests that personal development and maturity involve accepting and embracing moments of vulnerability, discomfort, or emotional challenges. The quote implies that as individuals grow and evolve, they come to recognise that it’s normal and acceptable not to have everything figured out or to experience emotional lows. Being “okay with not being okay” signifies a level of self-acceptance and understanding that setbacks or difficult emotions are a natural part of the human experience. The quote suggests that true growth involves developing resilience and the ability to navigate through periods of discomfort without being overwhelmed by them. It’s about facing challenges head-on and using them as opportunities for learning and self-discovery. By encouraging acceptance of not being okay, the quote challenges the notion of perfectionism and the unrealistic expectation that one should always be in a state of contentment. It promotes a healthier perspective on the ebb and flow of emotions and life experiences.

It’s the last two weeks of the year and I am going to start clearing my leave, which means, I can start working on my writing and start planning what the blog will look like in 2024. I am looking forward to that this week.

In other news, well, there is no other news. BB is home from camp and will go back tomorrow. It’s always wonderful to have him back home. I am pleasantly surprised that he does not hate his BMT experience and doesn’t have many complaints about life in the barracks. Well, he needs to decide if this is something he wants to do more of and if he decides to sign on. I’ve told him, it has to be 100% his decision and this is something none of us will interfere in. We’ll know sooner or later what he decides and when he does, I will support him.

That’s all from me this week. Happy Holidays, everyone!

2023 Week 49 Update

Today’s quote is a Chinese proverb that underscores the importance of maintaining hope, aspirations, and a sense of purpose in life. This quote tells us that dreams are symbolic of one’s hopes, goals, and aspirations. They represent the things we strive for and the visions we have for our lives. Using the metaphor of a bird with broken wings suggests a state of incapacity or limitation. Without dreams, life may lack direction, purpose, and the motivation to soar to greater heights. The quote encourages individuals to cherish and pursue their dreams, recognising them as essential components of a fulfilling and meaningful life. Dreams provide motivation, and the pursuit of those dreams can instill resilience in the face of challenges. They serve as guiding lights during difficult times. In essence, this proverb conveys the idea that dreams are not only sources of inspiration but also crucial for personal growth and well-being. It emphasizes the transformative power of having a vision and the potential for a less fulfilling life without the pursuit of one’s aspirations.

As the year winds down, I am introspecting a lot more these days. I guess it’s a combination of the winding down of a year and the beginning of a new year, which is like starting anew. This is something many do, as it is an opportunity to learn from experiences, understand one’s thoughts and feelings, and make resolutions or set goals for the new year.

That’s all from me this week. I have things I want to share, but because things are still in flux and not firmed up, I can’t share them yet, but hopefully soon. Stay safe and stay positive!

2023 Week 48 Update

We’re in the last month of the year and I am already counting down to 2024. Did you hit all your goals in 2023 and what are your plans for the new year?

Today’s quote comes from Mexican author and spiritual teacher Miguel Ruiz, whose teachings often revolve around themes of personal transformation, self-awareness, and the pursuit of spiritual well-being. According to Ruiz, the fear of truly living, embracing life’s opportunities, and taking risks can be more daunting than the fear of death itself. Many people may harbour a fear of fully engaging with life, pursuing their dreams, and taking risks, which could stem from concerns about failure, rejection, or the unknown. The fear of taking risks is portrayed as a significant obstacle to living authentically and passionately, which might prevent individuals from stepping outside their comfort zones and exploring new possibilities. By contrasting the fear of living with the fear of death, the quote suggests that the latter, in comparison, might seem less daunting. It prompts reflection on how individuals may inadvertently limit themselves by avoiding risks and challenges. This quote prompts contemplation about the fears that may hold people back from fully experiencing life and underscores the idea that embracing risks and challenges is essential for a fulfilling and authentic existence.

After the stress and tensions of the previous two weeks, this week was very calm workwise. This calmness may continue over December as many take their year-end holidays and clear leave. I also have some leave that I will be clearing this month and have planned to make time to write during this period. After starting work, I find less and less time to work.

That’s all for today. Stay positive and enjoy the holidays!

2023 Week 47 Update

I am beyond exhausted, so today’s update will be a very short one. Yesterday’s event was a success, but the days leading up to it were hard work. But I am glad it’s done and dusted and life can go back to normal.

Today’s quote is attributed to the Buddha. This quote encapsulates key principles of mindfulness, the law of attraction, and the power of positive thinking. The quote underscores the influence of thoughts on one’s character and actions. It suggests that the nature of our thoughts plays a significant role in shaping who we are and what we eventually manifest in our lives. It also suggests a connection between emotions and the energy we attract. Positive emotions are thought to attract positive experiences, relationships, and opportunities, while negative emotions may draw in corresponding challenges. By envisioning a desired outcome or scenario, individuals are believed to contribute to the manifestation of those imaginings in their lives. The quote reflects the idea that our mental and emotional states play a crucial role in shaping our reality, aligning with principles found in various spiritual and self-help philosophies.

BB is also home this weekend and next week, he has block leave, which means he will be home for a block of time. I am excited about this so I can get to spend time with him. And it’s perfect because my big event is also over and I will have the time to spend with him.

That all this week, stay positive and keep smiling!
