2016 Week 29 Update

It’s a new week, so happy Monday folks! I hope this week is good for you.

My days are running into each other and each week seems to be pretty much like the previous week.

I’ve sent out something like around a hundred resumes till date, but there’s been no response at all from any employer. Day-by-day, I feel my confidence deteriorating and there are times when I seriously think about my employability status and wonder whether I should just chuck it and become a SAHM permanently. I also need to take a decision about my helper R. Her contract ends sometime in mid-September and I need to figure out whether to continue the contract or let her go. I am in two minds about this – if I let her go and I secure a new position, I would really feel her absence as she is a very good worker. But then the other question is can I afford her salary, especially when I am at home these days and there’s not much work for her to do. Hopefully, this week will be better for me than the previous week.

I’ve been creating a lot of content for both this blog and In My Hands Today, so this is what keeps me busy all day!

Have a great week guys!

Secondary 1 Week 29 Update

One more week which was uneventful! BB & GG are settled in school and preparing for the end-of-year exams.

For the first time this year, GG’s school had a Parent-Support Group meeting and even though it clashed with BB’s school meeting, I decided to go for this one as I wanted to meet the PSG folks. In the beginning of the year, I had written to them but had not gotten any response from them.

I also understood that they have parents class Whatsapp groups, again, this was news to me so I am glad I went for the meeting and hopefully I will now become part of the group.

The other day I learnt that GG had been removed from one of her class chat groups. I am not sure why this has happened and have asked her to check with her other friends. If she is being cyber bullied, then I do want to take steps about this.

GG’s competition is at the end of the week and BB also has an aeromodelling competition next week, so they both are going to be super busy this week….

2016 Week 28 Update

Another boring week for us, though it was a short week for BB & GG and S also had a break in the middle of the week.

Whenever we get a holiday in the middle of the week, I get reminded of an old friend, who loved hump day holidays! She loved the idea of a break in the middle of the week, a reset of sorts, and every time there’s a holiday on a Wednesday, I always think of her!

I didn’t have a good week career-wise though. The one place I went for an initial interview, didn’t shortlist me for the next round. I must have applied to atleast 50-60 places since May, but there has not been even a single interview. I was thinking about this and realised, another colleague who was in a similar situation (like me, her position also got eliminated, but she was pregnant, so she left when her contract ended which was in her last trimester). She’s much younger than me and with a degree with a better market value and is still unemployed! When I started thinking about her, I felt even more bad – someone like her is still unemployed and where does that make me stand?

Enough of this depressing thoughts! On to happier thoughts this Monday! Hope you have a great week….

Secondary 1 Week 28 Update

Another school week comes to an end, but this was a short week for the children. Monday was a school holiday in Singapore as it was celebrated as Youth Day here. Then Wednesday was a public holiday due to Ramzan Id or Hari Raya Puasa as it is called in this part of the world.

GG is busy in school and preparing for their show choir competition Bedazzled and she comes home very tired when she has practice. I am glad the competition is later this month so that she can then start focusing on her Common Tests which start from the 1st of August as well as the second Semester Exam which will be later in October.

BB on the other hand, still has a very ‘don’t care‘ attitude when it comes to studying. He is smart, but not hard working. He is the kind of person who will only study what he wants to study, that is the subjects which interest him – which are usually Science and Maths and when he gets bored of these two, some English. The other subjects, especially Hindi and the Humanities are relegated to when I start nagging him to study! GG on the other hand, is more focussed!

That was the school week for us. How was it for you all? Have a wonderful Sunday!!

2016 Week 27 Update

We’re done with half of 2016! I can’t believe how fast this year is going. Also the first half of this year has not been very good to me, so here’s hoping the second half more than compensates for the bad first half.

This was a ho-hum week for me, with nothing of note. I’ve been sending out resumes almost everyday, but so far, there’s nothing, nada on the radar. The recruitment consultant I spoke about told me I made their cut and the company will now screen the resumes they sent to them to decide whom they want to meet. So far, there’s nothing yet, so not much hopes there too…

I was pretty much at home this week, with just a visit to the temple on Friday. My sister-in-law’s new baby is apparently sick a lot, so my mother-in-law had some prayers in the temple for him. We spent a couple of hours in the temple and then also did a food donation to the visitors there and then had lunch before coming back home…

That, my readers, was the highlight of my week! It’s so pathetic, even if I say so…

Oh, I need to update my reading challenge for the year. My original challenge at the beginning of the year was to read 125 books. Somewhere around the 100 mark, I moved the goalpost further to 150 books by December 31 and as of today, I’ve exceeded my original goal and have read…..drumroll…..126 books! Hopefully I will exceed the target of 150 books also soon….

With a public holiday this week, let’s see what it brings to me…

Wishing all muslims a very Happy Id….Selamat Hari Raya Adilfitri (as they say in southeast Asia) and Id Mubarak as it’s said in India!!
