2018 Secondary 3 Week 30 Update

This was exam week for GG and she said she did ok in all her subjects except for Maths and Science. I am getting a bit worried about her Science and Maths marks and am seriously considering getting tuition for her for the two science subjects since she already goes for tuition for Maths.

BB finally got his NRIC and I can’t believe they will turn 15 in just over 6 weeks time! How time flies….

GG is getting excited about an overseas learning journey they are having next month. Actually, she is both excited as well as nervous. This is a humanities learning journey and the itinerary seems quite interesting. There’s a meeting of the parents with the school next week for those going on the trip and that should give us more information and get answers to our questions. This is not her first overseas trip alone (or with her school) as their primary school also had a compulsory trip for all fifth graders. These two went to Kuching, in Sarawak, East Malaysia and that was a nerve-wracking trip for us rather than them.

2018 Week 29 Update

This week was all about my Dell laptop.

Since I had not heard back from the customer support person by Monday, I dropped them another email asking to get the invoice. Predictably no reply and so I called them and asked to speak to a supervisor. When I told the supervisor the whole story, I was assigned a new person to deal with and I managed to make the payment within 30 minutes of the call. I also got a service technician come home th day after the payment. I was pleasantly surprised and thought all my laptop woes are over.

But the service technician didn’t have one part with him and so he left after trying to make it work for more than an hour. Now I am waiting for Dell to come back with a new date for a service visit. I also realised that my cable charger is now defective and since Dell does not have any retail store in Singapore, I have to go through the whole process of getting an invoice and then they ship it to me. The technician did tell the service team about this and asked them to send an invoice, but as usual nothing yet. I’ll wait till the end of today and then call them again. When this will end, I don’t know!

Please send me some positive laptop vibes if you can? I really need it this week to get this whole thing sorted!

2018 Secondary 3 Week 29 Update

GG starts her common test from tomorrow and she is very stressed about certain subjects. These are subjects she is not very strong and so struggles with them even now.

Yesterday was Racial Harmony Day in Singapore. This is a day which is celebrated every year on 21 July to commemorate the race riots of 1964. This is a day where children across schools in Singapore are encouraged to reflect on what it means to be a racially harmonious nation and how we can learn about the various races which make up Singapore’s diverse population.

I, along with other parents, volunteered at BB’s school for the celebrations. We helped with the serving of food from the various races as well as in manning stalls where traditional games from the different races were played. It was really nice seeing the students dressed up in ethnic costumes and looking lovely.

2018 Week 28 Update

Some weeks I really don’t know what to update and wonder why I am still continuing this series. Then I suck up and sit down in front of the screen trying to find words that describe my boring and mundane life.

This week was the same the previous weeks and my life stands as it was before. The only positive note is that we are going to renew R’s work permit as she does not want to change employers. Since there’s not much work for her to do, we are looking at reducing her pay with us for a time period till I secure a new position and she is happy with the solution. Hope this does not take very long to do.

2018 Secondary 3 Week 28 Update

Another week of school and the term is heating up.

Nothing much actually happened in school this week for BB & GG and it was business as usual for the two of them.

They are super busy this term and while BB does not have common tests, GG’s school has them starting from next week. In the meantime, she is also having class tests going on.

BB took part in an intraclass debate last week and even though they were the opposition, his team won! The three boys had come home the previous day to prep for the debate and I spent a couple of hours helping them out. They now meet another class for the semis and then if they clear this round, will go into the finals! He is super enthusiastic about this debate and is thrilled they mad it to the next round, which is tomorrow.
