2018 Week 34 Update

We’re in the last week of August and I am now settling in the new freelance project I have taken up. I am only doing one client now and will wait till the end of the year to learn the ropes before I start looking for new clients. I will also use this time to see if I do manage to secure a better paying position.

Other than that, we had a mid-week holiday on the occasion of Hari Raya Haji (or Eid Al-Adha as it’s also called). Mid-week public holidays are great for a reset and when Thursday rolled on, we all thought it was Monday all over again!

This week proves to be quite a busy one for me what with some duties relating to my freelance work and then also a school commitment in BB’s school for the upcoming Teachers Day, I will probably have more to update next week.

Till then, have a fantastic week…

2018 Secondary 3 Week 34

Another school week and this was pretty much a normal one.

BB and GG are getting ready for their September school holidays which start in early September. BB’s school holidays will mostly be spent at his Outward Bound Singapore adventure camp. Last week we went and brought all the supplies and clothes needed for the camp.

GG is looking forward to the school holidays so she can chill with her friends.

Happy Sunday folks!

The Firemaker – Peter May

939097Margaret Campbell, a Chicago forensic pathologist, has been invited by the Chinese government to teach at the Beijing police university. She has accepted the six-week assignment with misgivings but is desperate to escape a troubled life in America. Arriving in Beijing, she checks “nothing to declare” on the health declaration they gave her on the plane – nothing, that is, “except a broken heart and a wasted life, neither of which was contagious.”

She gets off to a bad start when her car knocks senior detective Li Yan off his bicycle. In a furious clash, he dresses her down in perfect English. But Li soon finds himself reintroduced to Margaret by his superiors when the newly promoted detective’s first case requires Margaret’s special expertise to identify a horribly burned corpse. Thrown together to track down the killer, Margaret and Li must bury their personal and cultural differences when they uncover a conspiracy that threatens not only their lives but the lives of millions.

Some throwback pictures of our trip to Yogyakarta in 2016. This is from an open-air performance of the Indian mythological epic Ramayana which was held against the gorgeous Prambanan temples. The Javanese version is slightly different from the Indian version, though the main characters and events remain the same. It’s more the way it’s been depicted that’s different and as an Indian brought up with the traditional version of the epic, it was very interesting.

The evening was truly a wonderful and enchanting one and for anyone planning a trip to Yogyakarta, please do check the performance schedules and make sure you are able to catch it!
