Secondary 1 Week 32 Update

The week and August started off with some good news from GG. If you remember, before the June school holidays, GG was nominated by her class teacher to try to become a student councilor aka prefect. The good news is that she made it! However, for the rest of this year, she, along with the rest of the Sec 1 student councilors are on probation. They still have to do duties, but they will be assessed on the way they behave in school, on how they maintain their grades and decorum as well as how they go about doing their duties. Then at the end of the year, sometime in November, before school ends, if found to be fit to continue, they go in for a council camp after which they become full-fledged student council members.

I am really happy for GG. She suffered from some serious self-esteem issues, especially when she didn’t do well in her PSLE exams and was placed in a stream lower than her brother and friends. However, she has started shining in her new school, winning the Model Student award for Semester 1, doing well in her Sem 1 exams and now on the verge of becoming a student council member. She has also become more focused in school and now wants to top her level this year.

BB, on the other hand, is still as playful as ever. He seems more interested in playing his games than school work. I guess it’s true that boys mature much later than girls and once his life ambitions kick in, he will start becoming more responsible and start working hard to achieve his goals.

Have a happy Sunday folks!

2016 Week 31 Update

We’re on the first day of August and as of today, I’ve completed three months of unemployment and being a SAHM.Hopefully August is a better month for me than the last three. I’ve enjoyed this time, but now I am more than ready to go back to being a productive member of society!

Last week, I met some old colleagues for dinner. My old ex-boss was down in Singapore for some meetings and so we decided to meet him and some of the others who were still in touch for a catch-up. It was a fun evening, reminiscing and gossiping about old friends. I and another colleague who stays not too far from my place decided to leave around 10:30 pm, but the others were still at it till later than 11 pm.

My ex-boss also asked me to send him my CV and said he will put me in touch with some people he knows who may need someone with my skills. So hopefully something clicks soon.

The latest Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child released yesterday and all three of us, GG, BB and I were super excited about it. We had pre-ordered the book and so went down to collect it from the store. Both BB & GG were fighting about who gets to read it first and I had to give in! But, since they are in school now, it’s all mine today. I’m off to read the book now, so catch you later….

Have a fantastic week people!

Secondary 1 Week 31 Update

We’re at the last day of July, just a few more months for the end of the school year….

The week was the usual one, with school work and CCA activities. GG has been having some class tests and will have the scheduled common tests from tomorrow. BB’s school does not have common tests but have unscheduled tests on an ad-hoc basis.

BB, for his Flying Club, took part in some Flight Simulation competition yesterday. The results are not yet out, but BB says he does not think he will be placed well. Aah well, lets see when the results are declared.

This was our very ordinary school week, but sometimes ordinary is good right?

Happy Sunday!

2016 Week 30 Update

Another week is gone….

I am really feeling my age and more these days. On Saturday we went to see and support GG for her show choir performance and by the time we were back home it was past 11 pm. Even though I only went there and sat down to enjoy the show, I was so tired when we came home and needed a good part of Sunday to recover!

The latest update on our troublesome neighbours is that we have to change the ceiling fans on two of our bedrooms. This whole episode (and it’s not over yet) has left a real bad taste in my mouth and I have a sneaking suspicion that we have been victims of very subtle racial discrimination. When the estate manager came to check, his assistant initially told me that there was no noise, but the estate manager (EM) told me otherwise. Initially, I wanted to go upstairs and see for myself which the EM agreed. But later when he came down, he told me that since they were from the government agency and he had checked, there was no need for me to do the same. Why I really wonder? If there was the loud noise as they claim, then they should be eager to show it to me to prove me wrong, right? Something didn’t seem right to me. I let it go as I didn’t want to create a scene….

Anyway here’s hoping this week is much better than the last one and the week is awesome for you all  too….

Secondary 1 Week 30 Update

Another week has gone by and we’re edging towards the end of the year, just a few more months to go now…

GG has her Common Tests from the week after next, while BB does not have Common Tests, what he has are class tests which will account for a percentage of the final marks.

Yesterday evening, we went all the way to Resorts World in Sentosa to watch GG’s school choir team battle it out for the show choir competition called B-Dazzled. GG’s choir did not win, but they did a great job. GG had some lines to sing solo and I was so proud of her. She is the only Secondary 1 student who has any solo lines to sing. There were loads of students from the other schools who were competing to support their mates, but hardly anyone from GG’s school. Also the students in the audience made so much noise, at times it was so difficult to hear the music.

In addition to the show choir segment, the competition  also included soloists, two sisters who were fantastic! They sang as if we were in an Opera and I can see a great future for them in music. Their voices went to such high pitches, wow!

Have a great Sunday….
