2018 Week 13 Update

Another week is gone, with that, a new month is here!

Nothing really happens in my life, but as I get closer to a self-imposed deadline for taking some life decisions, I am feeling fearful. This decision may change the trajectory of my life and the little hope I have right now with one aspect of my life will be extinguished. Anyway, I still have a couple of months before this deadline, so until then, hope lives eternal!

I also had a nice Easter weekend with the children and S. Now off to make sure the children study and do well in their mid-year exams. These exams are important because if they want early admission next year for either Junior College or Polytechnic, then these results will make an impact in influencing the examiners.

Have a great week and an awesome April.

2018 Secondary 3 Week 13 Update

March ends and a new month begins, one which will end with the mid year exams having started in both GG & BB’s schools. In fact, BB’s school has already issued the mid year exam timetable and now it’s up to him to figure out how to plan his study schedule.

GG was voted as Vice President of her CCA, something she wanted since she had been quite passionate about it since Sec 1. She will also emcee her school’s student leader investiture ceremony next week when she gets her letter of appointment.

Nothing much happened this school week, but tomorrow is a new day!

2018 Week 12 Update

Another week and we’re almost at the end of quarter 1!

I spent my weekend debating internally whether I should deactivate my Facebook account or not. With the Cambridge Analytica fallout, I am now rejoicing over my decision not to be all over social media and keeping a very low profile. While I did not deactivate my FB account, what I did was spend some time removing apps which had permission to access my account. I have a decent score of only 11 apps in the last 9-10 years, including WP, so yeah, I’ve gone and deleted everything from Facebook. I guess I am lucky that I am so paranoid that I almost never sign up with FB and always sign up to any apps or websites using email and this has, to a large extent protected me.

I’m also using this as a teaching opportunity to show GG & BB how social media can be dangerous, if not used properly. And also using this as an excuse to unsubscribe to all the newsletters and spam email that seem to proliferate and choke my inbox.

What steps are you taking to protect yourself online?

2018 Secondary 3 Week 12 Update

The pace is starting to pick up in school and in just a week after school has started for term 2, GG has said she is done with school!

BB’s results, as expected, were not as good as expected. Only in the normal Maths (or E Maths as it’s called here, one which every student has to do), he scored well, the other subjects were either below expectation or worse. I’ve had a good talk with him and I am hoping that things change for the better and soon!

Soon, the midterm exams will start, as early as next month as they need to be finished by early May at the latest, giving the teachers time to mark the papers and also go through the papers with the students.

That was pretty much what happened this week in GG & BB’s school week. Have a great Sunday and an awesome week!

2018 Week 11 Update

Another week has gone by and I really don’t have much to update.

BB and I went to watch GG’s school choir perform at the Voices of Singapore festival. They performed along with five other secondary school choirs to a full house. It was an interesting and enjoyable afternoon.

I had wanted to plan something with the children over their holidays, but because they had hectic school and tuition schedules, we couldn’t do anything. Now, need to wait for the June holidays to do something fun with them.

Hope this week has some news for me! Have a great week folks!
