In My Hands Today…

Wise And Otherwise – Sudha Murty

A man dumps his aged father in an old-age home after declaring him to be a homeless stranger, a tribal chief in the Sahyadri hills teaches the author that there is humility in receiving too, and a sick woman remembers to thank her benefactor even from her deathbed. These are just some of the poignant and eye-opening stories about people from all over the country that Sudha Murty recounts in this book. From incredible examples of generosity to the meanest acts one can expect from men and women, she records everything with wry humour and a directness that touches the heart.

In My Hands Today…

Norwegian Wood – Haruki Murakami, translated by Jay Rubin

11297Toru, a quiet and preternaturally serious young college student in Tokyo, is devoted to Naoko, a beautiful and introspective young woman, but their mutual passion is marked by the tragic death of their best friend years before. Toru begins to adapt to campus life and the loneliness and isolation he faces there, but Naoko finds the pressures and responsibilities of life unbearable. As she retreats further into her own world, Toru finds himself reaching out to others and drawn to a fiercely independent and sexually liberated young woman.

2018 Week 14 Update

Another week and this was a mixed bag of a week for me.

I have been super productive in finishing some chores which have been pending since the start of the year. I am almost done with the organisation of some documents and will start with something else later this week.

We’ve all been sick, starting with GG, then BB and me together. GG seems to have recovered, but BB and I are still not 100% fine.

That’s about it for me this week. I am also psyching myself to get myself to agree to a decision for which my self-imposed deadline will come in a couple of months and I really need to psych myself for it.

Have a lovely week folks!

2018 Secondary 3 Week 14 Update

This was the week when both have gotten the mid-year exams timetable and I have been, as usual, nagging them on starting to do up a timetable to plan their studies.

This week was also the Student Leader Investiture Ceremony in GG’s school where not only was she the main emcee for the event, but she also got the appointment letter appointing her as Vice President of her CCA! But the flip side of this honour is that she has become busier and I don’t want this to affect her studies and focus in any way. So  I guess, I have to be there for her, and guide her on good work-life balance and start these lessons young.

Other than that, this was the usual school week.
