The Home and the World – Rabindranath Tagore
Set on a Bengali noble’s estate in 1908, this is both a love story and a novel of political awakening.
The central character, Bimala, is torn between the duties owed to her husband, Nikhil, and the demands made on her by the radical leader, Sandip. Her attempts to resolve the irreconcilable pressures of the home and the world reflect the conflict in India itself, and the tragic outcome foreshadows the unrest that accompanied Partition in 1947.
We had been on a holiday to an Indonesian island over the past few days and it was such a chill holiday. We had no agenda and didn’t do any sightseeing, which was a new thing for me. I’ll do a proper blog post with more details, especially from the perspective of someone who is vegetarian.
We had a relaxing 2.5 days and came home to a sick helper. Actually, she fell sick the day before we left for our holiday, so that evening, I took her to the doctor and loaded her up with medicines before we left. The fever broke a day later, but she was still weak when we came back. So immediately, I had to start working when I reached home, doing the housework and cooking for the next couple of days. As I write this, she is in the clear, but still feels weak because she is not eating anything except some juice and fruits.
I am starting something new now, more details to follow when things are more clear.

BB had another science camp this week and this was the only thing that happened this week as we were away for a holiday most of the week.
BB had a great time in the camp, much more than the one he went to last week. They did some cold survival techniques for which they went to snow city. Then did some satellite stuff, including how to download images from a satellite. He loved the cold survival techniques and the satellite stuff they did with the NASA engineer.
I am so glad that he gets to do such things, and we don’t have to pay a single penny because the costs are absorbed by the school and the government.
