Poem: Life is not Impossible

Life is sometimes unfair,
It seems like its all despair
But then comes a time when things start to turn around
And makes you think, that maybe things are not so bad

When it’s the darkest hour before dawn and life seems a curse
When one is sure that things can’t be anymore worse
Then there’s that little voice which comes deeo from the heart
And says life is not impossible, everything is possible

If you have a dream, then go ahead to grab it
Do all you can to make it come true
Make sure every second of your life is of value
A value you set and bid troubles adieu

Transform every weakness into a strength
Gather together those who are in the same wavelength
Pursue all opportunities and mitigate threats before they occur
Plan a path to success, here’s your answer

Life is beautiful, see the beauty in everything
Everything is possible, walk your steps with a spring
Nothing is impossible as you can see
Remember you are the creator of your destiny

Poem: Friendships and Friends

A friend is someone who probably knows you better than anyone else and we all need a good friend. You don’t need many friends, but a few close ones will have your back come what may.

So here’s a poem to the good friends we all have in our lives.

Friendships and Friends

You have been with me through thick and thin
We’re so alike, we could be a twin

You hold me up when I cry and laugh with me when I am happy
We could be crying one day and on an another crazy laughing with glee

You are only a phone call away, even if we now live far away
Our lives are now separate, but our bond is still weighty

We can go months without being able to speak or meet
And then pick it all up in a heartbeat
Chatting as if those months didn’t happen
Meeting up and chlling out and having a lot of fun!

A friend is family whom you choose
They are there when you are feeling the blues
When life gives you lemons, they are right there
To make lemonade and grin at life together

Let’s raise a cheer to a good friend
To the one who raises your spirits like no other
A good friend is hard to find
So when you find one, cherish and hold them close

Poetry: Happy New Year

Like most of the poetry I write, this too came by unbidden while I was writing my reflections for 2020 and resolutions for 2021. While I have made my new year resolutions, we are still living in an uncertian world and I for one, am hopeful that 2021 will be a much better year for all of us.

Happy New Year

Out with the old, in with the new
Isnt that how we greet a new year anew?

2021 stretches before us, like a blank piece of paper
A new beginning, a chance to get our act together
Resolutions are made and promises sworn as we cheer
Learning from past mistakes, we vow to do better this year

2020 was a tough year for sure as we all know
We’ve still not come out of the woods, the process will be long and slow
But the end of the year did bring some good news
Maybe this will chase off the year-end blues

My hope for 2021 is just this wish, small but true
May all your dreams come true, find hope and peace in all that you do
May the year be the one where you shine like a star
Win that war inside yourself, be a superstar

My wish for 2021 is that our world goes back to a semblance of normal
We are able to meet our loved ones and life again becomes dull
Here’s wishing you all loads of happiness, peace and much more
Happy New Year and peace and joy more than you have ever known before!

Poem: Tomorrow

A lot of us like to put to tomorrow what we can do today. But what is tomorrow? Some time back, while walking, I started pondering about this question and this poem started to take shape.

Tomorrow

What is today, but yesterday’s tomorrow?
What is tomorrow, but today’s tomorrow?

Tomorrow is a word infused with hope
Truth or false, maybe in your horoscope?

As a child, tomorrow felt so far away
Especially when tomorrow is your birthday
It seemed that tomorrow would never come
But when it came, it was today, oh what a conundrum

As you grow older, tomorrow seems to alter
From anticipation, it changes to become a chore
Deadlines and work become important
And then tomorrow is something you wish
Doesn’t come soon and becomes more distant

At the end of the day, as you know
Tomorrow is just another day, make it your maxium
So my advice to you is to just go with the flow
And know that tomorrow is always there in the distance, it just never comes

Poem: The Mumbai Monsoon

The rains are nothing new to Singapore, and these days we have rains most afternoons, but because the sewage and rain canal systems are good, there is hardly any flooding here. But it’s a completely different ball game in Mumbai where each Monsoon means wading through sometimes waist-deep water and having the transportation system crippled for a few days till the waters recede. But there is a magic in the rains and I used to love the monsoon. I loved having it rain when I come back home from college because it meant I could walk home from the bus-stop without opening my umbrella and get wet in the rain, but conversely hated this when I went to school or work because it meant staying in wet clothes all day. The rains have been slashing Mumbai in the past month or so and when I saw the visuals of wet roads and some waterlogged areas, this poem came about unbidden. This poem is a relfection of how the monsoon used to be when I lived in India, so it may be different now.

The Mumbai Monsoon

When June makes it way, newspapers hold sway
Everyone has their own theory on when the monsoon will come and play
The MRF prediction is hotly debated, Kerala and then Goa’s rains are long awaited

When the sky starts to darken, the mood shift is palpable
Everyone looks upwards in an occurance that is annual

With hope and a prayer in their heart,
They pray the rain God will do his part
Shower the city with just enough rain
So the streets don’t flood, causing people pain

But flooding is inevitable, the price Mumbaikars pay
For a system built ages ago, in a city then known as Bombay
But the spirit of the city during times like this magnify manifold
It’s only during a crisis, when you see people’s heart of gold

But the monsoon in Mumbai is something really special
To see the waves buffet the Gateway and Marine Drive
To get wet in the rains, to revel in the pure water that is sometimes harsh, sometimes gentle
This is a time when your soul comes alive

I really miss the Mumbai monsoon and maybe those years
When life was more carefree and simple, without the stress which interferes
But life moves on and I hope to experience the monsoon once more
To live that life of that carefree child and young adult, without any worry and chore!
